    Ah, I see, nice one

Fairly fundamental by its nature, I guess...
  2. well.. diseases.. cancer for instance.. if someone smokes cigarettes regularly for any amount of time without heading the warning on the package of cigarettes.. that's not God's fault.

HIV.. this (from what I understand) was contracted from monkeys. God never intended for us to have sex with monkeys.

As for the natural disasters.. I agree with you to a point. Yes, you are correct that man doesn't create hurricanes etc.. I have two ideas for this. 1. the nation that is being hit with a disaster? Is it a bad part of town? Is there a lot of sin going on there? God brought destruction on Sodom and Gomorrah because it was an un-Godly place where a lot of sexual adultery and homosexual behavior took place.

My last idea is that God's ways are not our ways. Sometimes God allows things to happen for a reason that is unknown to our minds because God sees the much bigger picture. The eternal picture

But you could argue that God, if he did indeed instigated the process of creation, made it possible to suffer from cancer. And people can contract cancer through other processes than smoking, I mean you can just be plain unlucky and have it in your genes - you can't blame the unlucky sufferer for something that wasn't of their doing.

Well, that's a theory - unproven, and there's no guarentee that it'll ever be, because one needs as much faith to trust in scientific knowledge as one does to have trust in religious teachings.

On a random sidenote, I brought that up in an ethics lesson during 6th form last year (about HIV possibly being contracted through intercourse with monkeys), went down like a sack full of faeces lol...thinking about that, if someone wanted to have sex with a monkey, wouldn't that suggest that they weren't satisfied by having sex with another human, be it male or female, and so how would it be passed on if they weren't interested in intercourse with humans?

I agree on the cigarettes, one could argue that god made it possible that cancer even exists, but I won't go further into this.
HIV doesn't come from a human having sex with a monkey, that's bollocks.
As for the natural disasters: If god punishes a town/nation/... how can he be omnibenevolent?
Btw: In your opinion homosexuality is a sin?

Is that not against evrything that God is about? He would destroy places and people because of un-Godliness. I'm surpized at that justification

Heck I hope that doesn't lead us down the path of defining what God is lol...

...cause this is where we'd probably end up lol.

No Harry...I was expecting them to come out of the woodwork (they already kind of are) after your comment about free will. You can't be a Calvinist if you don't believe in a god, so you're off the hook.

Indeed indeed lol, that was my thought - I am no Calvinist because, like you say, I don't believe in God and (to delve upon my Sociological learnings which would no doubt go to waste if I were to neglect them) I'm not following the Capitalist way of life in the hope that I may be one of those pre-destined to reach heaven...

Is 'bollocks' not a term that many your side of the pond use?
  12. Like I said.. I don't have all the answers. God made a flood. Noah's ark and stuff. Killed off the whole entire world except Noah, his sons, their wives and one male and female of each animal. so how can we talk about that. I don't know about that omni... whatever word but I know that God does what God wants.
