1. "Rockers The Killers are determined to be more successful than U2 - insisting the Irish band will have to surrender their place at the top of the music "pedestal".

Frontman Brandon Flowers admits he is a big fan of the band, but feels it is time for the ageing musicians to be replaced as one of the world's most successful bands.

The singer is also convinced that The Killers will be able to topple the legendary group.

"(We can replace U2 on the top) pedestal," he said. "They're getting old. You know there's going to be a couple of songs on (their) new record you're just going to love. But there's gotta be... I dunno. It feels like it's time."

And now, let the Killers bashing begin.

that's one of the funniest things I read in ages
  7. Nothing wrong with ambition. U2 no doubt said similar things in the past.

And if the new record is shit, and the Killers make a strong one, then who knows. Think Coldplay are a bit more universal myself, but there's only a handful of bands big enough to take it on.

If the new record is awesome, then they have no chance. We'll have to wait and see.

U2 aren't going to be here forever, we needfo remember that.
  8. The killers seem a little to poppy, though they could be a candidate. For no though, go get some proper clothes mr flowerpot.

Well that's cheered me up on drab and dreary Monday.........LMFAO

    "I've got soul,but I'm not a soldier"..........more like arsehole

They must have a new album coming out.......taxi for Flowers.
  10. Very interesting and contraversial topic!

I think it's a bit rich for The Killers to say that after U2 let them open/support them on the previous tour. I actually like the Killers but am sure they will never achieve close to what U2 have simply because U2's music has a broader audience appeal as well as strong, meaning ties between the band members.

As to whether U2 will continue to be great I think they will. I am also a fan of the band KISS. Truly plain, loud and obvious rock - They havent released an album with new material in 10 years because everything they do is the same. The songs, the concerts, the stages, the playlists, the constumes, the makeup. And despite this, while they aren't great, the emphasis becomes on the concerts and live performances.

U2 are completely different as they are continually re-inventing themselves. Sure there are often links between albums (AB & Zooropa, ATYCLB & HTDAAB) but they push themselves in a new direction. Could this lead to a flop or an concert tour that isn't well supported as old favourites are pushed aside for newer material that is less popular? Sure - but would it stop you going? It wouldnt stop me!
