1. Random thing, but since this is a thread dedicated to The Fly, I figured it was appropriate - I was just chilling with one of my friends earlier, browsing through her library on her laptop, and I came across the Now music compilations CDs that she had, and I never realised that U2 had a fair bit on some of them, e.g. The Fly is the first track on the Now 1991 CD, and I mean on the Now 1982 CDs, they include "A Celebration"! I was just quite blown away, but at the same time quite pleased that some good music actually made it onto mainstream compilations such as the Now series...I put The Fly on straightaway, because to not would have been an offence to great music and U2 lol...
  2. My favorite are the ZOO TV versions!!!!!! Edge sings all the choruses, awsome. My second favorites are Vertigo. They rocked the hardest. Plus, I lurve the "Satisfaction" snippets, really cool. My last favorite, Elevation. Don't get me wrong, they are definitely awsome, but Bono sings all the choruses. If Edge sang them, they would easily be my favorites. I love the solos in the Elevation ones too.

  3. I love The Fly, it pretty much sums up the whole Zoo TV Era, it's one of those songs that's chaotic and weird, but in a good way I like all the different versions of it, especially Vertigo
  4. Elevation is just kicking ass. That solo is thrilling. Vertigo is great too except for some performances, but the U23D one is very good. Zoo TV is maybe even better than Vertigo Tour because Bono is better in the Zoo TV versions. On Vertigo he mistimes (Achung Y'all!) Or just saying it instead of shouting it like on Zoo TV. It's one of my favourite U2 songs
  5. I'm not a big fan of the fly live versions. if I had to chose, I'd probably say zoo tv, but I'd rather prefer listening to the album version. it's one of those songs I always list when someone asks which u2 songs are better on the album than played live.
  6. One of the best songs ever.

2001-06-09 Boston - best version ever IMO

Yea Bono sings all of it, but I like it that way. You actually get to hear "Love, shine like a burning star, falling from the sky, tonight" THE RIGHT WAY. It's one of my favorite choruses. Fat lady voice on the studio? Sounds like some sort of joke to me. Plus you never get to hear Edge sing it alone other than the once after the solo.

This is all my opinion though. Peace
  7. i think it is a contender for their best song, for many reasons
  8. Lyrical Analysis anyone?
  9. Zoo TV versions of "The Fly" are my favorites. Just encapsulated that time and era of U2 - for me. Loved Edge using the Fender Eric Clapton signature model Stratocaster with the Love Town snake/skeleton graphic. Fantastic guitar.

Vertigo tour "The Fly" is in second place for me. I thought that it was far better, far more 'alive' and far more rockin' than the Elevation tour versions.
  10. I love version from Boston Elevation DVD and in U2 3D is great version too...
  11. The best versions are the Vertigo ones IMO, especially the ones from Sao Paulo (with a snippet of The Jean Genie) and Saitama (just because...)

Probably the best live song ever

I think I'm in the same camp in as far as I think the ZooTV versions were the best, BUT that said the Vertigo and Elevation formats come a close second. It's just an uber song for me however it's played. I do think it just looks better when Edge played the Strat., the Variax doesn't really do it for me...
