In Rainbows was released in most countries in the last week of 2007. However, in North America, it was released on January 1 2008. Can it still be included, as it was still in the official distribution period as of 2008?

In Rainbows did get nominated for a bunch of grammy's because the period for selection is through september 30, 2008. I think it should get a nod. If so, it's certainly the best album of 2008. IMO, no album even comes remotely close to being that good, not one. Viva was great, but still not close to In Rainbows. Radiohead made one of the best albums of the decade so far.
  4. And yes, great mentioning of Sigur Ros. I had forgotten that they released Me Su í Eyrum Vi Spilum End. It's a fantastic album, and it definitely needs a nod for best record.
  5. Does anyone else think Metallica's Death Magnetic is there best album since Master Of Puppets?
  6. 1 - Only By the Night - Kings of Leon
2 - Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends - Coldplay
  7. Chris Martin and co. - Viva La Vida
Shadow Puppets - Age of the Understatement
    Paul Weller - 22 Dreams

    I wish I could say U2...
4 years and I'm tired of waiting!

  8. No. Not at all. Sorry. I preferred ...AJFA to MoP. I liked the simplicity of the Black album, and I loved the road the band took with "Load". "Reload" was something in between, falling a little shorter than it's two precedessors. "St.Anger" was close to unlistenable to me, and so DM takes the band a much needed step back into familiar territory. But it's obvious that the "Guitar Hero" game version of "Death Magnetic" sounds way better than the CD album which is brick- walled by hard limiting up to the point of digital clipping. Soundwise it's not among Rick Rubin's best work - but it will find its way into a few million buyer's homes, especially since it leads the Loudness War onto a new level.

Metallica remind me of U2 in some way. They've never let themselves be forced to sound in any way that someone demanded from them, not even their fans. They always sounded how they wanted to, no matter what anybody else said or did. Every new album since their third marks a significant style change which is disliked by some of the old fans. And every new album is announced with the words "Their best album since...". Right now they are where U2 were with ATYCLB a few years ago, rediscovering old ground. But at the end of the day they're both still among the biggest bands in the world.

  10. Even tough I highly disagree with most of you on VLV I think it deserved to win.
CP have dominated the year, VLV has reached the top spot in many countries and they had the biggest tour this year (right? )

    Amen

imho, with just Lovers in Japan, they have won the year for me
  12. Haven't heard Only by the night yet, but I will
    My Favorites-
    Neon Neon-Stainless Style
    Little Joy-Little Joy
Coldplay-Viva la Vida(even if the title track is a ripoff, and not very good)
    Bloc Party-Intimacy
    Albert Hammond Jr.-Como te Llama

My top is probably Intimacy, after a few listens it really grows into greatness. not as good as the last BP album, but better than the first.
    2-Stainless Style
    3-VLV
    4-Como te Llama
    5-Little Joy
