1. At first the song took me into a strange atmosphere. I didn't know in which part of rock and roll I was, but it was rock and roll indeed!

Then I realized: there is surely something from Fez and noth Africa in some passages, there could be such an echo from Led Zeppelin heavy guitar (even if in U2ic version), something from the rock and roll spirit of The Beatles, and I don't know how many other elements. But all of them really fit together.

In the end I can say this is a great first single! I can see a sort of fusion between Vertigo and Elevation in some points, in some part of the sound. But it's surely a completely new song that introduces the album in a really interesting way.

I think it will be great played live, and can't wait for it.

    Definitely 4,5 stars.
  2. It sounds alot like Muse. Which is really awesome.
  3. should be stellar live. an opener Perhaps , with that fuzzy bass leading in ..... then Bono screams out "Let Me In The Sound, sound let me in the sound sound let me in" Dam I can"t wait!!!!
  4. Alrighty..

After not listening to u2 for the past 4 or 5 months I am listening with a fresh set of ears. I haven't heard WTSHNN or Bad or anything in 4 to 5 months. Today I am working and only had the chance to listen to GOYB from the small little computer speaker that is on the hard drive on the INSIDE of the computer. NONETHELESS!!! The sound was exciting and fast enough that while I was on my hour lunch break made me drive home to listen to it on proper speakers. The new single is RAW! That is the only word I can use to describe it. Very Bassy! Great job Adam did on that. This is much much better than Vertigo. I saw a post on youtube where someone put it perfectly: "Everyone will have an opinion and say this isn't too 90's U2 etc" But for me I can assure you that this is VERY 21ST CENTURY ROCK! LIKE ROCK 2009!

    Great first single for sure!

exactly that passage will be so bloody awesome! I can already see it happening
  7. Aah, at the end of a good day it's my turn:

I listened to GOYB for around 12 times now. Two radio broadcasts, 3 times on the Zen with CX300 and the rest on my stereo.

Bono: Singing allright to me, nice way of rhyming. Lyrics aren't too deep, but a single doesn't need deep lyrics, it needs to be striking and somewhat catchy.

Edge: My oldest brother said Edge wasn't written al over this song...I don't agree, Edge IS written all over it. The riff is simple but very heavy and good. I like the little guitar-play somewhere in the middle. Reminds me of The Doors.

Adam: Did a great job, heavy bass. Nothing wrong here.

Larry: Starting with original drums and quickly changes to electric stuff...it's cool, it's a good step forward from HTDAAB and I like it.

Overall: A nice song, not their best, not their worst. I put it above Vertigo, it's more catchy. But....it isn't really a groundbreaking new step forward. It the entire album will have songs like this, it will easily get beaten by Snow Patrol and Kings of Leon. I have the feeling the rest will be quite different in comparison to this single though.

The song itself reminded me of Daddy's Gonna Pay, Xanax and Wine and Vertigo. I listened to all these track in a row with GOYB at the start and at the end. There are definite similarities.
  8. Definate push forward in a new direction, but to my ears drawing parallels with Cartoon world from 78 !!! listen you will be amazed.

I think i like where they are going.
  9. Not bad at all - quite what we had heard from the beach clips. Still, sounds a bit homemade to me. Will certainly be great live. Looking forward to the album.
  10. I do like the song a lot; some of the lyrics are ironic and very real-world. There's a good few electronic sounds in there, going back to Pop and Achtung with some awesome riffs and some very nice bass. Some arts sounded like an old 60s-inspired tune. It is probably the best song for the first single because it's catchy and not too long.

    So far - 8 / 10.
  11. I was disappointed with the 20 seconds snippet we heard on saturday night... Now I can say LOVE the song. I spent all my morning hooked to my MP3, and when it eventually arrived I was So FUCKING EXCITED. I recorded it live and throughout all the day I think I've listened to it (not exaggerating) over 30 times... I love it.

The best part IMO is the bridge that contain the "You don't know how beautiful you are" parts. When Edge kicks in that bridges with that G chord it's just OMFG I like the overall chaos feeling, and the electro-arabian-dance-rock-pop-expermental influences

Now I really am excited about the upcoming album
  12. relistening again now that i'm home..

right around 2:23 right before the "let me hear the sound" break down..

it sounds like a black guy saying (or at least very hip hop and deep sounding) "i dont wanna talk about the wars between the nations"

    wondering who this is..

also during the breakdown "let me hear the sound" 2:36 till 2:55 very Achtung style Edge guitar.. kinda FLYish maybe a hint of Lady With Spinning Head??

I hear structure in this song. I come from a techno/trance and breakbeat background though. This is new and rocking. I believe the only chorus/breakdown is the "let me hear the sound" and I believe this part will be huge also live (like someone else said on here earlier)
