1. One thing I'm a little surprised by is the fact that there was nothing played acoustic
That seems rare for a U2 concert...
  2. From Twitter (I suppose it is Gerard):

The wi-fi was soso. Good gig, crazy setup

now that you mention it, they didn't? o__o they should've gotten MW (acoustic) in after all.

  4. ya hopefully they'll put it in at some point
maybe they just thought it wasn't ready yet
  5. I'm off...will read the rest tomorrow. It's 3am here..nuts. Goodnight

  6. Who knows, perhaps the days of the B-stage are behind us? In some ways AoH and IALW were an allusion of sorts to that, but were just full electric instead of acoustic (IALW has never been an acoustic track and AoH was only played with an acoustic guitar during ZooTV courtesy of Edge but they were used midset to break up the setpiece songs etc. during the main set so they performed a similar function, merely early on in the set)...

EDIT - in deference to the occasion, my new background...

(PS - don't ask why I named the clock Albert...I'm still not entirely sure myself)
  7. Harry, that's my desktop as well!!!

Dieder, I was about to change my avatar to exactly what your avatar is! I cropped it and everything, weird!
  8. haha, my desktop, too it's one awesome shot!
  9. "the thing is, i have only been a fan since 2007, and I greatly appreciate them playing ultraviolet I can only imagine how happy those of you would be that have been fans since like achtung baby come out. ooh ya"

Went to my first U2 concert in Philly back in '92 -- when Ultraviolet was still new. I missed hearing them play it by one night, and it was the only thing about the experience that bummed me out a little bit at the time. To think I could hear it again 17 years later? I'd have thought it impossible -- hopefully, they'll play it in the States too. I might have to trek on up to New York or down to Washington to see them in September now. Was originally going to wait til the spring when they're allegedly coming to Philly again to play, but now that they're playing Ultraviolet? I don't think so.
  10. Short summary. I didnt get into the elipse but im glad. I was on the rail on the outer side of the elipse at the tip of the walkway. Had loads of Bono and Edge just there in front of me.

Breathe as an opener was nice (Larry on stage on his own drumming the intro with the band members joining 1 by 1 after that). Crazy Tonight remix was fo fucking wierd. Nice but wierd. Walk On was brutal with the masks etc, Beafutiful Day had a nice intro, new. In A Little While is a song I hate. Bono chickened out of all the big notes in The Unforgettable Fire, needs to go for it or drop it. NO DROWNING MAN!!. Streets was sooo good. Everything red with a flash of lights. The screen is something to behold. Absolutely mesmerising piece of it. Ultraviolet was nearly there, needs finer tuned on Bono's end. Bono got a laser jacket (cool as). WOWY was sooooo bad. Seriously needs dropped. MOS needs a lot of work. We got to speak to the International Space Station in a Sarajevo link up esque conference. Massively scripted but broadcasting from the claw to space? Coool. That screen during COBL and UF. My god

My advice, get seats and sit far away. The size of the claw only hit me as I left the stadium and the further away I went, the bigger it got. When under it, it just doesn't feel as big.

High point was Streets back to normal and that screen. Ohh and Larry rotates. Fucking up One was hilarious too. You gotta hear it.

Overall it felt like a U2 gig. I still threw a tut when Bono got his (not too many or lengthy) One Campaign jibes in, and I still got bored of In A Little While, Pride, SBS etc. Sound wasnt perfect from my view. Not enough Edge and too much Bono. Could rarely make out the tone of his voice and he ended up sounding like a chipmunk. Snow Patrol sounded great though?

Cool review Ger, and again thanks for the live feed - main thing is, a) did you enjoy your first gig and b) glad you went?
