    True there is a financial crisis. But many countries offer health care to everyone. And I'm sure most American think they can do it as well. If its the right thing to do now is something else. One thing is that nobody should die because they are poor.

    I do also think people should be more responsible themselves though. I cant understand why you get a loan for a car every 3 years, but dont save money for healthcare, retirement, etc. People are just spoiled.

  3. The newest Green Movement action in Iran:

    Hundreds of Iranian men published pictures of themselves wearing headscarves and chadors in support of Majid Tavakoli, the detained Amir Kabir University student who was arrested on December 8 after giving a speech during the National Students Day protests in Iran.

    Fars news agency and other State media published pictures of him with a headscarf stating: "This student dressed up as a woman to escape from the university campus."


    It is alleged that these pictures may have been digitally altered or that after arresting Majid Tavakoli, they might have forced him into wearing female clothing to take the picture. Majid Tavakoli is regarded as the "honour of the student movement" by his peers.

    An Iranian photographer rallied Iranian men on facebook to protest the treatment of Majid Tavakoli by the Iranian security forces. He invited them to post a picture of themselves in Muslim head gear on the internet site.

    The call, which resulted in over 250 pictures, states that the arrest of Majid Tavakoli and the publishing of his picture in hijab (Muslim female covering) is a mode of "straining the student movement and the Green Movement in Iran," as well as "belittling Iranian women."

    The statement adds: "To prove that we are behind Majid Tavakoli, to prove that there is nothing wrong with female clothing and the only thing that's wrong is the compulsory wearing of hijab whether it is forced on the women of this country or upon Majid Tavakoli; to show that we are all together, post your picture in hijab!"



  5. Well, it's complicated Juraj. This is not a true democracy, so, protests alone won't get us anywhere, they will get us killed or arrested.
    The only hope or chance for us, is for something to happen inside the government. There are powerful people that support the greens, main one being Hashemi Rafsanjani (it would get too long if I want to explain his influence, check this out if curious: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akbar_Hashemi_Rafsanjani ) But even if he just declares that he supports us and that there must be another election, they will push him aside as well, arrest him or put him under home arrest.

    I've heard that he's trying to do something, but we need to give people like him, the power. If the protests stop, if everything goes calm again, people like Rafsanjani will have nothing to negotiate with. Right now, he says that the situation in the country is terrible and that the people do not trust the government, so we have to do something about it. But if there are no protests, the answer would be: what situation? everything's fine!

    The least that we will do with these protests, is keep the situation from going back to normal, Mousavi himself said, do not let this be forgotten. If we continue, the government might be forced to give us something, to cool us down
  6. Let me say this as well:
    I personally see no hope of anything happening in near future...but I've seen the power of these protests. The government makes it look like they don't care, but I can see that they are more scared each time, it's clear in their reactions to the protests, trying to make fun of them more each time. If they really didn't care, they would just ignore it, but they are using weird stupid scenarios to undermine the movement, and this is all making the movement people angrier, and more persistent!
    I believe that the continuation of the movement, can cause change, that might happen over a couple of years, but without the movement, would have taken decades. It speeds things up.

    Everything takes time...our "islamic" revolution was supposed to fix everything, 30 years ago, and it was going well for the first few years, but then everything suddenly went wrong...
  9. So I've decided, since I'm getting in shape anyway to join the military, I'm just going to try out for special ops right off the bat. I'm leaning towards Pararescue since,

    A. I used to want to be a paramedic, and
    B. I'm kinda an adrenaline junkie, and
    C. I like a challenge.

    If anyone else can find a military career with over an 80% washout rate, where you get to do Halo jumps out of the back of C-130s to rescue injured pilots, I'm all ears.

    You should go for whatever job makes you feel good about yourself, glad you found yours.
    I'm not interested in military jobs, I don't like their environment, their ranking system, and I wouldn't be able to make the decisions they want.

    Very well put! BTW: any government is always scared of any protests...always.
    That's the power and beauty of protests.
    Very often, protests have been put down by force. And the only reason to use force is fear.

    I mostely just want a challenge. Plus it would be kinda cool to be in the only American spec-ops unit that specializes in Combat-Search-and-Rescue, instead of blowing shit up.

    Also, note that your countrie is probally out of all the places that America may have a war with in the next ten years, the one I'd least like to be deployed to for combat. (although I woulnd't mind visiting it as a tourist someday if things calms down. Iran has a rich culture) Korea, or China would probally suit me better as far as climates I'm most comfortable in go. I know I would have no real say in the matter, just saying.

    On your note of not being intrested in military jobs, dont you have to be a fanatic to be in your countries military? (or at least for certain units)
