    This is not about battle of NLOTH vs. VLV!!! This is about next U2 album!!!
    (and of course... I don't like Coldplay )

    Nooooooo!!! Coldplay...must...keep...being....off-topic...But yeah, enough of Coldplay. Let's talk about SoA. Any new news or anything else about it? Will it ever see the light of day, will the new songs form some kind of hits compilation EP, anything like that? What albums would it be interesting to sound like?

    Ah yes, the song does have a very COBL vibe.
    It was a great idea to play the instrumental as the concert intro and do the full song as a reprise.

    But its better than LiT1 cos that doesn't really go anywhere and is very much and intro piece.

    There is no news on SOA so nothing to discuss.

    The truth seems to be that after 8/9 busy months for U2 fans, we're now back to very quite times; not even new beach clips - after all, it is winter .

    There are two extremes scenarios:

    - either U2 are working VERY HARD in some secret place; they will pull out a new album out of the hat some time soon. The album will be amazingly fresh and brilliant - it will be n. 1 for months, and U2 will be forever remembered as one of the greatest rock n roll bands ever.

    - or U2 are working more or less, probably on too many projects - they will start rehearsing in a couple of months, and why bother trying to pull out an album if there isn't time left before the start of the next tour? SOA will see the light, but at the end of the tour, i.e. well into 2011 - if we're lucky. Damn it.
  6. If U2 tours an album, like they do 99% of the times, it would be better if it comes into 2011 More shows -> more chance of a Dutch show -> more chance of me getting tickets

    I'd be very surprised if we see the album released before autumn. There is just too little talk. But who knows, maybe its too quiet and they release it tomorrow
  7. Yeah, you' right Risto. And it'd be too much to ask for an album in 2010 AND an album in 2011!

    Concerning how SOA should look like, I think might have been a bit unfair to Coldplay. On reflection, VLV sounds fresher than NLOTH. Not all the songs, but overall it is a fresh album - nice melodies, interesting sounds, and some fresh air. Well, I hope to see some fresh songs in the new U2 album. Be joyful and inspired lads

    An album recorded live would be great. Rather than just putting bits and pieces together to resemble a song record it live and see what comes of it.

    I'd rather wait two years and get a quality album rather than something in a year which I find boring and it goes back on the shelf - just like War. Chart positions don't worry me whatsoever and they shouldn't worry anyone else - you sell a few million albums and people like it, then great. But if it's good music people will buy it anyway - unless of course it's beyond their understanding or they don't like the first song and call FAIL. That's where Boots went wrong I think. Nobody knew what U2 were doing (sexy boots???) and so automatically assumed the whole album sounded like sort of glam-grunge and rubbish. It wasn't a Beautiful Day, it wasn't a Vertigo, it wasn't Elevation, it wasn't mindless rock. Much more meaningful than any Coldplay album - and still I don't think even U2 fans understand it.




    There is plenty of good music out there (indie, blues-rock, country, hard rock, garage rock) besides those that get on charts and the overpaid record execs and rock magazines (Rolling Stone, rock and roll my arse - Lady Gaga and Jonas Brothers, let's rock!!!) like to promote and shove down our throats. In fact a lot of great music has already been released this year already and it happens to be better than you'd think.

    Here's a quote (and I always use this one) from Michael Jackson on his last album about the music. It didn't do as well as he'd liked (13 million in 2001 is pretty good) but he has the right idea - and yet the album is so relatively unknown but contains great music like No Line On The Horizon and Original Soundtracks.


    Because I've always known if music is truly great or if a movie is truly great, people want to see it or hear it. No matter where you, how long you've been away, or whatever the situation is. You know, greatness is greatness and if you really do a great job on what you're doing, people want to hear it. Or they want to see it. You know, it doesn't matter, It really doesn't. Long as you're an innovator and a pioneer, you know. And that's the most important thing. Give them what they want to hear.


    Make of that what you will but it had about seven good songs out of 16. I wasn't expecting much but hell, it did better than I thought. Same as U2. I wasn't expecting much from No Line, but we got better than I thought. I never thought they had songs like MoS and Fez in them but they did. And hopefully this album continues the tradition of longer songs and greater melodies.

    I would like an album just released quietly like Zooropa was. Just one announcement, and then a normal cd (no deluxe editions and that) in the shops a few weeks later.

    I think releasing No Line in the way they did put people off. It certainly did for me when I saw how many editions and the box set having that little in it.

    The cover also I think might have done it for people - but then look at HTDDAB. That's far worse.
  11. I'm of the opinion these days that SoA won't be released before the next leg. In fact, it wouldn't shock me at all if when it is released, it's like 3 new songs, a few remixes and some live tracks. U2 seems to have gotten lazy with releases in the past few years, so why break with the new trend?

    yeah but the HTDAAB cover is more catchy. I like the NLOTH cover but I agree, it could have been better
