1. That's an interesting rumour. Ties all the bits together well. Does mean we'd have lower quality digital-only versions of the tracks, which would be a shame.

  2. I like that. We sometimes complain that they are lazy, that they want over-hype and over-do things, that their main aim is to stay on the top, and while they think that they forget that this very thought can put so much pressure on them that it becomes counter-productive etc. But still, I think everybody agrees that U2 are still able to produce their best work. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but maybe not. They're not in their roaring 30's anymore, but neither was Beethoven when he wrote his 9th symphony . Or neither was Lou Reed when he wrote New York and Magic and Loss. The U2 future will be less roaring, and I'm afraid nothing will top ZOO TV, but this is OK, I think, and it doesn't mean we can't get really great songs.

U2.com has been offering lossless downloads of the studio albums so quite possibly you might get a choice of those too. Still interested to see what eventuates...

    - U2 will be playing a promo show in April/May to promote the new tracks and DVD (this coincides with the April 13/14 rumor)

*note, this is all rumor, nothing confirmed, but supposedly this will be announced on Monday.

oh fuck, if that could be true...than i really have to do something to go there

oh my god, if thats true.... it would be really great
i knew u2 would want to get some new stuff out before they started the tour back up again, i was thinking an ep or something (which could be what this is)
and this could explain the thing on that website that popped up a little bit ago for the dvd that said something about "sign up to be updated on an exclusive format" or whatever it was

Ah yeah I remember that exclusive format. What better way than to get a new album and a new concert film at the same time - but I hope you don't have to be a member to get them or pay extra or something, otherwise I'd be really disappointed. I still haven't worked out how to get the Crazy Tonight video from my CD so hopefully this isn't the same way...

Maybe it's a sales-success tactic. Like you know you buy the DVD and then you get the new songs; everyone who buys that DVD is gonna download out of curiosity (hell, you get a chance to get some nice new songs, why not) and it'll be better for U2 and management as it would slow down or at least cut back on downloading non-legit, and then it counts as a sale, so you have them regardless. I wonder if that's the whole trick behind it; if indeed it is true.

i doubt you'd have to pay anything to download them since you would have to buy the dvd to get the codes to download them in the first place
and you probably won't have to be a member because im sure a lot of the people who buy the dvds aren't members so making them pay for a membership to download the new songs would anger a lot of people, and be lust downright bad marketing (not to mention incredibly cruel), and if they do release the new songs with it then they would probably put some kind of sticker or something on the wrapper advertising it, so this would entice a lot more non-members to buy it
  8. have we heard anything from the poster who said that there would be a secret concert on April 13/14. i realize that the post was removed because of confidentiality concerns, but i'm just wondering if anyone has privately heard from him/her.
  9. new songs? awesome! but whats with this special code bullshit

  10. So it's like you've bought the album and you're getting extra features. I don't see why they can't just be put on the DVD (at least as DTS upmixes or something) but then it wouldn't be easy to get them if you wanted to make a CD or put them on your players or computer or wherever.

but it seems like it would be easier to include a cd with the new songs in the case
but remember, we dont even know if any of this is true yet, they might not even be releasing the dvd just yet....

and also a bit easier to copy illegally, right? Also, it drives traffic to U2.com....not sure if that matters or not.
