  3. My updated list would have to be this:

    1. Achtung Baby (every song is unique and brilliant)
    2. Joshua Tree (excellent all round album)
    3. All That You Can't Leave Behind (why? because this album after Pop brought U2 back!)
    4. The Unforgettable Fire (the album that marked a big change in U2's songwriting ability)
    5. Boy (A consistent album from beginning to end)
    6. Rattle and Hum (A nice continuation of the Joshua theme with some very worthy songs)
    7. Zooropa (A wonderful experimental album)
    8. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb (some excellent singles)
    9. No Line On The Horizon (First 3-4 songs are epic!)
    10. Pop (Interesting material although can tell it was rushed)
    11. War (Great for SBS, NYD and 40 but rest is a little inconsistent)
    12. October (Gloria and October are nice songs but the rest is a little lacklustre)




  4. Don't you find the lyric "if coke is a mystery and Michael Jackson history" rather lame -so lame that it ruins any credibility of the song? I realize that the band was trying to be a but "tongue-in-cheek" or even ironic at the time but for me The Playboy Mansion was a major misfire.

    For a second there, I tought this was one of my own posts! Well said...although I'd say you're a bit tough on War.

  9. To show that I am "open-minded," I will listen to Pop this weekend in order to revisit The Playboy Mansion (too bad I'm not meaning that literally).

    I decided to to include the live U2 songs (and covers I still did) because they had already appeared on other albums. It made sense to me at the time.

    i feel uncomfortable listening to their first four albums. They seem to be unfinished. Maybe thats why I like NLOTH that much cuz its so overproduced

    I don't think it ruins anything about the song. It's what the song is about, and if it's "only ironic for its time" then so be it. You can take me back to 1997 for 4 minutes and I'm not going to complain. It's catchy, to me, well produced, and I really love the mellow flow of the "Then will there be no time for sorrow" parts. Great song, in my opinion. Not the best one they've ever released, and not the best song on Pop, but I love it.
