Jamming sparks ideas, which lead into songs, thats usually how a band writes music together. And if musicians are boring, why are you on a U2 forum? U2 are musicians, and if you think they don't know what key they're playing in, there's something going on inside your head Maybe when they first started out they were like uhhhhhhh, but now they definitely have some sense of theory. Even people like Hendrix, who was all soul and not about reading music, had some sense of theory. People don't just get by making a career on music not jamming, and not having any sense of theory, it wouldn't work. I barely have any, but I can at least tell you what key a song is in...

U2 are musicians on an album, but on tour they are entertainers. It is the same with other artists who go on the grandeur tours that they do. People like blues artists are not entertainers, they just sit down and fool around. Music theory is really only needed for classical music, it is extremely complex compared to rock/pop. Rock and pop songs are just thrown on a piece of paper in a matter of minutes that I can count on one hand. Classical pieces have extreme dynamic changes, key changes, time signature changes, etc. that take sometimes years to complete. I have been playing Viola in school for years, it's extremely different from writing a rock/pop song for me. I know music theory from that experience, but I rarely (if ever) use it outside of that. But, as always, to each their own.
  2. This is a song that I wrote last night. I can't wait to show it the band, this will be great! Very cliche set up though. Oh well...

    NGC 4945

You wonder if your story is hiding, maybe the plot is building
You lie to the stars at night, when you say you’re climbing
You might as well have reached, your point of breaking
Or maybe you will find out, that time is cheating

Coming out from under the trees, the lovers loving
All the birds with their lovely chirping, doing the same love singing
Maybe your skin stops growing, we never really stop our moaning
Flowers bloom, rose tainted view, honey, all games were made for winning

But we dance, under the same moon, tonight
But we dance, under the same moon, tonight
But we dance, under the same moon, tonight

Maybe we’ll get there one day, NGC 4945
But really, the clock is ticking, always some time for wasting
The crowd throwing their sticks and stones, the sound of fighting
And somewhere nearby a fire is burning, the color of passion bleeding

But we dance, under the same moon, tonight
But we dance, under the same moon, tonight
But we dance, under the same moon, tonight

Lift off, lift off, lift off, NGC 4945, tonight
Lift off, lift off, lift off, NGC 4945, tonight

Edit: And here is another song that I wrote for my "Chocolate Honkies" side project lol

    Dark Frost

Dark frost! It’s all the funk!
Dark frost! It’s in your bunk!
Dark frost! It’s not your mother’s junk
I want the dark frost! (bop-shoo-bop-shoo)
I want the dark frost! (bop-shoo-bop-shoo)
Dark frost! It’s in your hair!
Dark frost! With all the solar flares!
Dark frost! Only if your dare!
I want the dark frost! (bop-shoo-bop-shoo)
I want the dark frost! (bop-shoo-bop-shoo)

It's a fun little electro-dance tune lol. Would be nice in the middle of a set.

Forgive me if I'm wrong...but upon initial reading of this, I'm getting the vibe that this is a song about sex

I'm not saying it's bad- I actually really like it. Im just saying that's how I would take it....and it works, to be perfectly honest with you. Cool sounding, sort of like "Elevation", but also like the aforementioned song....about sex. Hahaha

I was saying that to myself when I was writing it lol. It's supposed to be about the world trying to reconcile with itself before leaving to repopulate another galaxy called "NGC 4945." Out there, but I like it. If the world has to have make-up sex in order to carry on after screwing things up so badly, so be it. Thanks Matt

That's an interesting title. Can't wait!
  7. Something I wrote some months ago. I played all the instruments and vocals, recorded, mixed, etc. I won't post lyrics because...well, because I don't really care for lyrics.

  8. Aaahhh, fun stuff!!!

Nothin' like the blues to sink your teeth into
  9. Hey guys, this is a song that I (musically) completed last night. The drums will not stay the same once myself and the real band play it (I made this in Guitar Pro), because Josh can do something much better than what I can do with the drums. I don't really have a title yet, but it reminds me of a discotheque in the middle of a forest or something lol. Here it is:

Sounds like something out of the N64 game Perfect Dark, cool stuff.

Intro had me a little confused, because like R&H said, it sounded a lot like pure video game music...but when the song opened up, and became very Muse-y, (which I love, because its not an imitation, you can just tell their influence), I understood the theme when it was reintroduced.

Can't wait to hear what it sounds like with real drums and everything else...you've got real talent, Nick, I wish I could get half of my ideas as polished as you have so far. Major kudos

Also, that's an awesome album cover!
  12. wow, that's impressive! Well done!
