    They dropped it for leg 2... didn't think it would be back. Opening night in Chicago had it, but I went to Chicago II, and every show afterwards didn't get it.

    And yeah, I thought about moving "One" up ZooTV style, because I would love not expecting it like I do every time the show winds down to the end of the main set, but at the same time, I actually really like it at the end. It's become somewhat ceremonial, and if they're gonna play it, they might as well top the show off with it.

    The only reason ISHFWILY and SBS are even in there is because it's a prediction, not a wish. They could drop both of those and I would be happy.

    yeah totally and thats why i liked your setlist! it managed to be quite realistic without being overly self indulgent which is really hard to do. anyone can just list all the songs they want to hear but i don't think it would be totally unimaginable for them to play what you came up with... still pretty unlikely though if their recent track record for disappointment is anything to go by!


    but if they played your setlist i'd be over the moon with joy. if they played my altered version i'd be ... slightly happier than that!


    oh and i am a bit tired of one always being in a predictable spot these days. they did play it earlier in the set on a couple of occasions last year and it was refreshing. also if its not at the end of the set there's probably less danger of bono making some horrific speech before it....

    TERRIFIC point about Bono's speechmaking, though it was nice when it was at the end, and it was preceded by the Tutu Speech on the screen, and the band just began playing the song at the end of his speech as opposed to Bono's...that was the way it was done at my show

    But yes, hearing something like "One" in the 6th or so slot would be quite a shock, probably would startle me! haha
  4. yeah i REALLY CANNOT be doing with bono's speeches... he devotes more than enough time outside the band these days to talking about poverty and africa and everything else and fair play to him - but onstage i like to see them just get on with playing the songs and having a good time and being a band! i know a lot of people will say thats always been what U2 was about but i'm afraid i totally disagree - apart from the brief (ill advised) sarajevo link ups during zootv and possibly the mothers of the disappeared towards the end of popmart they spent the whole of the 90's just being a band and a f*cking amazing one at that!! there might have been a few good natured sentences to introduce songs with a political message here and there but nothing more. and on top of everything i've just said, the lyrics do all the talking anyway so bono shouldn't need to add anything else!
    ok i admit he hasn't been TOO bad on 360 but the all time low point was the vertigo tour.... MY GOD those speeches before one were excruciating... and the worst thing is i can't see any way back now - he's taken it too far. i can't see the band ever being able to re-invent themselves again like they did 20 years ago. bono has devoted himself too much to too many causes to be able to take a step back and just become a rock star again. it seems to me they have spent the last 10 years completely deconstructing everything they spent the 90's working on which is such a bizarre move!!! they should've released ATYCLB as a breather and just to prove they can still make nice commercial music and then gone back to exploring more new sounds and breaking new ground... but unfortunately 10 years later they seem happy to carry on doing the opposite

    anyway rant over!


    at the two shows i saw one was played at the end but i remember there was a couple where it was played in the first 6 songs or so - i know one of the dublin shows was played like this but cant think of any others off the top of my head. the tutu speech wasn't too bad either - i had some pretty terrible pre-conceptions of it before i actually went to my first show but it worked pretty well - maybe very slightly too long..? not sure.

    Thought it was very powerful, myself. It was very loud and when he screamed "ONE!" at the end, I got a chill...though there were several around me laughing at his voice/the idea of it all.
  6. i think if i'm being totally honest i was more worried about what other more casual concert attendees would think (i always want U2 to prove casuals wrong about the usual preconceptions) but sure enough i unfortunately noticed a few people around me taking the piss when he was on the screen... but personally i thought it worked quite well like you say with his voice booming around the stadium! it was quite funny but in a positive way

    Yeah, Not to sound insensitive about 9/11 or the One campaign but Bono's drawn out speeches before One at Notre Dame (2001) and Chicago (DVD 2005) nearly ruin the flow of the concert - and the song itself!

    -I don't see "With or Without You" being dropped as a travesty, and I doubt they do either, they toyed around with it on the Vertigo Tour, it wasn't a staple.
    -I would be VERY surprised if they're actually going to "road test" new material on this leg of the tour; at least not very early. Perhaps towards the very end, if something's actually announced or more accurately projected, we'll see some new stuff.
    -I love when U2 songs occupy brand new setlist positions on tour...eg; "Until the End of the World" has been the in the opening trio (Elevation), opening quarter (ZooTV), about halfway (PopMart, 360°), AND in the encore (Vertigo)...and I would LOVE to see this happen with EBBTTRT, since whenever it's been played, it's been in the opening few numbers of the setlist, but I'd much rather see "The Fly" open the encore, and I don't know where else it would go.



    Nice. SIX Achtung Baby songs! I'd like that. WOWY will still bw there, however.


  9. Remove "Please" from my set, expand the encore to 4 songs (which should be done anyway), and it still stays. "Please" was the most daring of my predictions, and most unsupported by probability/logic.

    Also, though, I fear that "Walk On" will remain, since they seem to think they're doing something grand with having audience members onstage during the show (not that revolutionary, guys*) wearing those damn masks...And we sort of NEED that to be something they drop to keep the real important 360° staples in there, and throw in new stuff.

    *(explained from above) I saw John Mayer supported by Michael Franti & Spearhead a few months ago, and during Franti's closing number (Say Hey ), he preceded the song by calling out to every child sitting on the floor of the United Center (where Vertigo//Chicago was filmed) AND in the 100 level seating- still accessible to the floor- and told them to run down through the arena, and for security to help them up on stage. There were a TON of people bouncing around the stage all over the place, people singing into the mics, etc.- and it all sounded/looked SPECTACULAR! The most fun portion of his whole set.

    The point of that is, I hope U2 doesn't think that "Walk On" has to be one of their setlist staples just because they've got audience members going up on stage with those masks for it. It's almost like "well we wouldn't want to stop doing that, because then the people that are seeing it for the first time this leg will miss out on seeing that"...but to me, that's just not one of those moments.

    in a way this could be part of the same problem i mentioned in my above rant in that bono has gone too far with this Aung San Suu Kyi business to be able to drop that song...

    my opinion is he's drawn enough attention to the issue - move on, you've made your point, there's nothing more you can do... it's a new year and a new leg of the tour - if you carry on pushing the same issue with the same song its going to be boring!

    don't see why there always has to be some big serious cause involved in a U2 show these days anyway...?! whatever happened to just putting on a good show without ramming these serious depressing issues down everyones throats.... ? i knew about Aung San Suu Kyi long before i went to see U2 in 2009 and i certainly wasn't going to put on a stupid mask just cos bono wants me to! i didnt see what it's gona achieve and it just looked plain stupid!


  11. I use to love Walk On during Elevation Tour, but that's something weird with this song during this tour that made me feel tired of it. I don't know what is it, but could be the fact that the song is out of place in my opinon, or the hole masks stuff, what had completely failed in my opinion...

    I think "Walk On" was a clear inspiration on the Elevation Tour, once 9/11 had happened and people began using the song as an anthem of hope and survival throughout America, and in turn, the rest of the world as they supported us through that tragic time...it was almost like the sigh of relief and the release of all emotions- joy and tears- at the end of a U2 show...and now, it's like..."Whoa...you're really tackling THAT one again?"

    Sort of like how Elton John "retired" 'Candle in the Wind', saying he'd never play it again because he didn't want it to lose its meaning (I dont follow EJ's setlists enough to know whether he held true to this or not)...it just seems like maybe that's something U2 should have done with that song.
