The Route 66 seems to have a much more favorable sound.

And I've started to get really into the idea of using compression, so this will be a buy for me someday. Kings of Leon's guitarists have multiple Route 66's (3 or 4 total, I believe) attached to their rigs just so they can use them with different tweaks for most of their songs. It is essential to the southern rock/gritty sound.

I like the Route 66 alot. With that, I've not felt the need to by an Ibanez Tubescreamer. The Route 66 covers it and covers compressor.
  2. It seems that Edge has given up the almighty semi-hollow sound for Moment of Surrender, and now plays it in a fernandes/stratocaster (I can't figure it from my crappy resolution mobile phone)? I wonder why, althought the heavy feedback that was sometimes present during MOS may have soemthing to do with it.

  3. Indeed, Mr. The Edge has indeed swapped out the Gretsch (Stereo) Country Club for a 70's era Fender Stratocaster. (He's been using the Stratocaster for MOS for all of the U2:360 2010 Europe shows thus far.

Another interesting take is that he's playing the part a bit differently. The muted plucking part is there but there is also some organ-like chords via the guitar and his Electro Harmonix POG.

This change in the part might be why he switched guitars. The sustain on the Strat might be better than the Gretsch for the 'organ-like' POG bits.

Good to see that he's reassiing the parts and experimenting. "This works but THIS might be better", and they trying it.

  4. Yes, maybe the sustain thing for the chords throughout the verses is the explanation, good point there Jeff

I completely love the Country Club Gretsch , but if he feels like the Strat gives a better sound for MOS... then go ahead, Mr. Evans, go ahead and I Will Follow

I lkike the Gretsch too. Nice guitar. Great to see that one out on the road, as he'd not used it on the road previously... But he is getting a good tone with the Strat too.

...And I like the POG use for the orgaish bits. Nice touch.
  6. I would seriously KILL just to spend a few hours in this rooms:

  7. We should all get together in same room and film our own documentary... using Edge's gear. We'll call it "It Might Get Ripped Off: Damn, How Much Money Would I Be Out If I Broke This?"
  8. hahahaha, good one Nick

By the way, did anyone notice HOW incredibly WONDERFUL are Adam's bass straps???

  9. Oh my God, from the start of the tour, I've been dazzled. They are exactly what I want for my guitars. Unfortunately, I'm going to need to settle. I have found a few that I like, but they definitely don't compete w/ Adam's. I would imagine that all of his cost at least $200+... I'm going to look into them, most of them appear to be made by Levi.

    Edit: http://www.levysleathers.com/browse;cat,868;Straps

None of Adam's on there, and I could not find a customization option on the site.
  10. They look kind of flamboyant to me. But it matches well the flamboyant finishes he has on his basses now.

  11. and the attire he's chosen.

Look for a Boss OD2 or OD2r on ebay. That is what Edge has used for UTEOTW. It has a nice warm compressed tone that nails that tone. It seems that is what Edge used for a number or tours.

I am not 100% sure what he's using for UTEOTW on 360. I think it might be one of the Line 6 DM4 patches.

TS9 modded by Analong Man will sound very good. The 808 Tubescreamer reissue is a good one too.

Maxon is great. Maxon MADE the original 808 and TS9 Tubescreamers for Ibanez.

    Hi!

Thanks for the tip about the OD2. I purchased an occassion OD-2 from 1986 (MIJ)!
Sounds amazing, can't nail the UTTEOTW sound yet, but it's getting close!
Also, I got a EH Big Muff Pi.

So, any suggestions for further improvements?
Basically, what I need now is a clean soft distortion and a good delay pedal.

also, does Edge only use Boss pedals that were made in japan? (don't know if anyone knows that one :-) )
