  1. Just throwing it out there - a club album by U2 would be magical.


  3. Okay, during the writing / recording of Pop, they were going for the club vibe feeling. Imagine how funky (:P) it would have been if they had more time to play with the computers or drum machines. What they released is probably a lot more rock than they were going for because of the time constraints. I think that they could really put an atmosphere together with the time and right producers. For example, imagine if U2 collaborated with Lady Gaga. I would be all over that.

    I hope this is one big sarcastic joke. Basically what you're saying is you want U2 to fit into that dank, crap music that's in the top 40's these days? You want a record made in computers and drum machines rather than actual instruments and live sounds? I have a feeling Pop would have been even less experimental if they had more time. What we got was a raw album, with mainly ideas rather than songs/productions. The fact that they were rushed out of the studio was almost an excuse when people talked about how they lost many north american fans because of pop. To me if they had had more time, they would have released a more accessible album. Which is basically what I'm fighting AGAINST. I'd rather have U2 release Every Breaking Wave and Fez-Being Born, songs like those, rather than "Let's Get Twisted" by U2. Give me a break.

I think this is the kinda thing U2 originally wanted for Pop, i read in I think U2 by U2 that they still wanted to continue the style of Mofo and Discoteque all the way through the album and were dissapointed when it turned into a rock album. Not saying that if they do it will be any good, but maybe its a response to a chip on their shoulder they have had since 1997?

    Pop, if it had sustained the technotasticness of the first three tracks, would have been either orgasmically awesome or tiresome. It might have worn thin by the end.

    I think songs like The Playboy Mansion and Miami, while not techno, were very ironic and poppy, and also fit in nicely with the theme. Velvet Dress, Please, and Gone also have a shimmery sound that fit nicely on an album called Pop. Indeed, only Staring At The Sun really stands out to me as a possible break from the Pop concept.

    Dank and crap? Look, computers / software are obviously a vital role in music production now (and have been for at least the past fifteen years). Behind every computer is a human soul. Plus, the whole "it's all computers" methodology is a joke. The sound of a synthesizer instantly brings the image of a computer screen to mind, which is b.s. It is treated just like a Guitar and an Effect Processor (Piano plus midi sound effects). A synthesizer is a piano with cool sounds. It is played just like a classical piano and is practiced with equal skill. I'm in a rock band. I use Guitars. I use Synthesizers. I use Software. Why? Because it takes more than wood to build a table.

    "Let's Get Twisted" is obviously a stretch. One example of a pop song with an important message behind it is Kanye West's "Stronger." Bono played out the message on the Vertigo tour. It is about coexisting, making the best of our world and each other. To say that is crap is frankly, ridiculous.

    Plus, I'm sure that when Bono said "club" he meant something more 90's, if anything. I'm pretty sure that we'll get a different album and a four year wait. lol

    You make good points, but at the same time picking a few good songs out of many isn't making me feel better. When U2 fits in the mainstream with Kesha, Justin Beiber and Miley Cyrus I'll probably shed a tear. I hope you're right about 90's club, but in full I the whole club idea gets ditched in the long run. I'd rather have a U2 album with songs like Mercy and Every Breaking Wave. This is my opinion of course, but it's the way I feel. Pop is probably the U2 album I listen to the least, so you can see where I'm coming from.

    And let's get twisted isn't that much of a strech. Most of the songs I hear these days on the top 40 radio stations are about girls, money, drinking, partying, and other shallow-ass subjects.     I wouldn't worry about that... the most popularity that I can see the next album receiving is like CP's Viva la Vida. I agree that Every Breaking Wave, North Star, etc. belong on an album. I strongly believe in that. But I would be happy if they started to experiment just a bit more with some ground that they have only touched the surface of so far. Imagine if Edge got onto a Sawtooth or a Kaoss pad, even for just one song? Oh my God...

    Well, I would say that the worst is by far Ke$ha (lyrically). The rest (aside from 99% of hip hop) isn't as bad. Not necessarily life changing topics all of the time, but not "Get drunk off da ass bitches is fo' me" either.

    But, like I said, don't worry. I honestly do not see a "club" album in U2's future soon.
  12. Considering they only make serious money off of tours, I doubt they'd record an album they couldn't play at least 50% of live. Not gonna happen with a club album. Unless it was like released in the middle of a tour and they incorporated some of it somehow...encore break music a la PopMart, replacement for Crazy Tonight, new intro music, etc...but I don't see that happening either
