1. Hi,

it seems that some Tapers are angry of uploading ther gigs in mp3-format here without asking them. In a few info-Files is also noticed "Do not convert into lossy Formats like mp3" (for example "Brussels".) See the Thread there (the U2start.com bullshit and other rant):

It's not nice. Maybe you should thinking about. I'll never do anything again without permission by the Tapers. We want their recordings in the future. So we should respect the Tapers wishes more in the future. This is my opinion. I know, I also was not an Angel in the past.
  2. Has been discussed a gazillion times. Nothing's gonna change anyway. - On both sides. -
Want a recording? Tape a gig. Want an IEM? Record it. Want a board recording? Make some contacts.
  3. This is an opinion...

With no money I can't buy equipment. With no money I can't go to a U2-Gig. Contacts??? So I'll enjoy the recordings from all Tapers with a big Thank!!!
  4. Would be great i we could respect everyones wishes. But we dont like to be excluded by people saying 'second class site'. This sites purpose is to give EVERYONE a possibility to listen to u2 boots. We are not for the few nerds who knows how to play FLAC.

Anyway its a shame how everything got out of hand with that u2eastlink guy. But we will not change the purpose of this site because people yell at us with capslock on.

but those same 'nerds' are the one giving you recordings in the first place ... without tapers there's nothing to share, and i tapers gets angry enough nothing comes out and you got nothing to listen to.

some tapers don't care and do write in in their info files (alysha for example), for those one i don't see a problem with mp3 files (except it dilutes the trading pool potentially and in the end sound like shit) but what about those explicitely asking for something to be respected?

let's say i release some 2010 stereo iem like diego did and i write in the info file "don't post on u2start or release as mp3 on any website", what will you do on u2start ? will you respect my whishes or will you simply bypass those restrictions and fuck me over like you just did with his wishes?
  6. Im a big nerd myself so dont feel offended If its your request I'd personally wont upload it, because i can miss a 2010 stereo IEM. But I dont blame anyone who does. If you want to exclude people from hearing your show you shouldnt put it on the internet, simple as that.

  7. +1 to Chris.

And also, why did he post it onto the forums in the first place? He posted it in Upgrades and Additions. That bit of the forum is there to add stuff to the Shows section.

He shouldn't have posted it on the forums in the first place if he didn't want it on the site.

I agree once you put somethin on the internet its out of your hands what the public may do with it. Once it becomes public on the internet it is no longer your property. As long as you get credit for the recording being yours (which every recording here does) then I don't see the issue. Its unfortunate but I agree with Chris...if you really want your wishes honored keep it for yourself or trade it only on a private basis

This is a dangerous opinion. You should think about why many Tapers don't upload their their treasures anymore. I have now understood.
  10. It's funny like sometimes some tapers also download lossy recordings from U2start.com and other gazillion of sites. Are they disrespectful to their tapers friends? It's a rhetorical question.

Completely disagree, that is such a shortsighted comment. I'm not a taper but a photographer. I only put my pictures online on my own site, with a copyright sign on it. This implies that it the pictures stay my property.

I can't stop anyone from copying them, but when I find out someone uses my pictures commercially they're in big shit. Simple as that.
  12. Maybe I have one thing to say here and that is that this site has always been about one thing: sharing. Sharing for free, because that's what U2 and U2 fans are all about.

It's true that we often don't respect 'rules' for publicly available recordings, but we're not the only one. While that is certainly not a (good) excuse, we try to disrespect it more nice by putting up credits, lineage, info files and all that. That is better than all the other (smaller) sites and newsgroups who do it often without the credits.

We are there for the people, for all out there who don't know a thing about lossless and still want to relive the great live experiences they had. To see how many people we make happy we that (or in fact, the tapers do!) is the greatest thing and is sharing at it's best.

If we lose tapers, then that won't matter. No one will notice. To those who stay, they will be praised forever, and if we can do anything more to praise them, please share your ideas because I'm all open for such things.
