Completely disagree, that is such a shortsighted comment. I'm not a taper but a photographer. I only put my pictures online on my own site, with a copyright sign on it. This implies that it the pictures stay my property.

I can't stop anyone from copying them, but when I find out someone uses my pictures commercially they're in big shit. Simple as that.

Only if they are in the same country you are in Otherwise its gonna be hard. I agree with you though.

Yep, we have a lot of known tapers here who often download lossy shows. Not a problem at all if it's for me, it's just a way of avoiding the encoding process you otherwise have to do yourself.
  3. I also agree with Cris here...

I do believe that WE ALL are fans of an amazing band, U2...

I'm incredibly thankfull to all Tapers, I really don't know what my life could be without all the boots I have...

But on the other hand, I don't think it's fair to U2 as a band to record a show, share on a specific type of file and forbidd a convertion to some other type.... leaving other fans out...

Everyone is entitled to an opnion.... so I guess it's ok to leave specifications as to what the taper wants, but I don't think its fair to us fans or the band...

they have always said: if you want to record us, go ahead... if we catch you selling it we will find out where you park your car...

I understand they're referring to selling bootlegs, but I would apply the same principle to this situation...

going something in the likes of: if you share a recording, go ahead... but don't get picky about it....

Anyway, this is just my opinion, I respect the taper's decision but I believe it to be selfish... hence i would not act without their permission...

PS: many many many thanks to all the tapers out there who have shared recordings with or without specifications....
  4. Just a few points: I'm all for respecting taper's wishes. These days, there are multiple recordings for every show. Most don't have a no mp3 clause, so the smartest way would be to leave the ones with that clause alone. Flacs are no rocket science, everyone can handle them if they really need 5 recordings of a show. I too was pissed to see my recordings downgraded, sold, remastered, ... in the past. But:

One has to face reality: Taper's wishes aren't respected. Conclusion: If you don't want a recording to be shared in mp3, don't share it on the internet but in circles you trust. Sad but that's the way it's done and should be done.

All this rant has nothing to do with the San Sebastian mp3, though.

  5. That is really not true, there are so many people who don't have a clue on how to get them, convert them or play them on their iPod. Because that's what they all want.

No taper is saying you can't convert a recording to any format you want. No one is excluding anyone. Tapers say: Do with it what you want - just don't spread it in lossy formats.

Everyone is smart enough to google flac -> mp3, convert them and put them on their device.

If there are multiple recordings of the same quality we dont upload those 'specific' torrents. At least I don't, and nobody likes heated discussions like these.

But the truth is that the world is not ready for FLAC, nobody downloads them here on the site. That is the reason why lots of links went dead. We cant afford private hosting, so we tried the torrent section. We are willing to do lots, but I am afraid as long MP3 is the world standard we will encode to mp3.

I honestly think you are good guy, but i guess we just differ from opinions.

What a waste of time and energy But again, nobody downlaods the FLACs.
  9. Just a little thought for the tapers. It's not your music Simple as that.
Don't put someone else's music 'out there' and then act as though its yours and everyone has to obey your requests.

If i recorded silence and put it on the net' i Don't own the silence and therefore no matter what i ask people to do with that silence i haven't got a leg to stand on.

Exactly. I couldn't think of anything better than that. But even in circles you trust you might be surprised.
  11. Stil if it were reasonable requests they should be honored. The definition of reasonable is where the opinions differ.

  12. I guess that's where we split.

Right, it's not my music. But my recording. Simple as that.
