1. got to 42C today and its gone b the same tomoz
  2. You guys remember we had those floods not long ago?

Well we have one of the biggest mutherfuckin tropical cyclones in history now heading to our state.

Category 5 (same as Katrina) will hit north Queensland in a couple of hours.

The eye of the storm is more than 100 kilometres in diameter.
  3. Tropical Cyclone Yasi is bearing down on the north Queensland coastline and is forecast to hit in the early hours of tomorrow morning (6 or 7 hours from now). At Category 5, Yasi is the largest and most dangerous cyclone to hit Queensland since 1918. The body of the storm covers more than 500km.

Many small communities in low-lying coastal areas have been evacuated, due to concerns about a storn surge. Other people are riding out the storm in evacuation centres. A lot of folks have battened down the hatches in their homes, hoping that everything holds.

Right now, the first edge of the storm is starting to cross the coast with high winds and damage being reported in Townsville. A lot of the webcams that had been streaming footage have started to disappear. Power is going out in some towns.

Just to illustrate the size and scope of what we're dealing with tonight, here's a graphic of Yasi superimposed over the USA.

  5. But of course, the sense of humour hasn't been blown away...

Photo taken in Cairns earlier today.
  6. my goodness

stay safe, all of our Australian friends!
  7. What K said.

Best wishes, strength and good luck.
  8. And we didn't get blown away. The property damage is pretty huge, but so far no deaths reported. However there were 3 births. So currently the score is Queensland 3, Yasi 0. Go Team.
  9. Chicagoland area just got 20 inches of snow in one night. Great news for my little brother and sister, who are off of school for the time due to the massive snow-ins: I just pray that they stay safe

  11. +1

it was a strange feeling to lay in bed at night knowing you people down there were fighting for your existance and your life at the same time ..... no good feeling at all
  12. I was walking back from school and it was really heavy winds. I was struggling to even walk in it.

We've had snow, heavy rain, heavy winds and even thunder in the last 24 hours. It's horrible

P.S. Hope Australia avoids that huge storm thing heading their way. Stay strong!
