  1. I hope Gloria, 40, Out Of Control, The Electric Co and Bad all make a return to the set, to remind people of U2 in their festival days.

    That's unfortunate.

    Hate that song.
  3. Those of you who are saying there's no real challenge here clearly haven't glossed the pages of the NME over the past 30 years.

  4. I've had the chance to check it out for the last 10-15 but never really wanted to.

It's a hell of a challenge for them. But whatever they do, people are gonna hate it, so they just gotta go with it and play a kick-arse show.
  5. they need to open with streets. i know it sits well later in the set but they need a ripping long joshua tree type intro to it to build up to a monster crescendo. that will shut the doubters up and instantly win over casual attenders. then i will follow and boots to rock it out totally. i'd like to see elevation open the encore as agian he could do a vertigo style tease intro to it to rebuild momentum. no preaching either, maybe electric co with a bit of climbing, 80's festival style.
  6. If Bono climbs up the Glastonbury stage, U2 is damned.

I like the Streets' monster crescendo idea though.
  7. They planned to open with Streets last year, don't know why they'd necessarily change it again. And this could see the return of EBTTRT, as that was planned for last year too.
  8. check out the intro of streets last year before muse and edge played it, then imagine U2.
  9. Yes, U2 would not be well liked among your typical UK festival goer/ indie fan, however, people tend to let go of their prejudices at festivals and get caught up in the moment, etc. You can take your mood enhancers and wander from stage to stage and check things out. Plus the other stages will give another option to those who just aren't interested.

The Pyramid Stage promotes a party atmosphere and attracts a big crowd no matter who is playing. Bruce and Jay-Z are not typical festival acts and they put in a decent shift. Look at how poorly Indie darlings, Gorillaz came across last year.

The big event nature of Glastonbury will suit U2. F*ck those public schoolboy bullies from the NME. A vulgar, outdated and frankly childishly crap publication. The NME will happily use U2 to sell their rag when it suits them too, so f*ck 'em.

The setlist/running order will be important, but they'll be sharp after touring with what is essentially a greatest hits setlist for these past few years. A few surprises would be nice, but let's face it, we can't control what they're gonna play.

U2 are big boys and can take the slings and arrows and stilll come out fighting. I'm putting my faith in Bono and am confident that U2 will rise to the occasion.
  10. U2 have always put on a great live show. I bet "haters" become fans.

That being said, they should keep it up-beat and full of hits. In others, park "In A Little While" for the night.
  11. Assuming they don't completely blow it, and really do offer a greatest hits setlist, it might actually be cool for even us die-hards. Some (perhaps) pro-recorded audio of a 2011-era Greatest Hits compilation. And who knows what they could end up doing.
