  1. I am really glad my original post here last year still provokes some interesting comments.

    I like the idea that in 04 / 05 - songs from this album were played on the radio (and still are today).

    No songs from Horizon seem to be played on the radio in 09 / 10 / or even today.

    No one remembers the fact that most of the Beatles album tracks were crap - they just remember the hits. Thats why I think this album will be remembered fondly in years to come as it had hits, hits and more hits.

  2. I really love this album, it's their second album I bought after U218. The lyrics on this one are really great and I love al of the songs.

    AMAAW are one of his best lyrics IMO

  4. Hits are boring. The 'deeper cuts' are where it's at. For that reason, Crumbs and AMAAW happen to be at the very top.

    Is it under-rated? No. Then again, are we talking the fans, the critics, various awards panels, the general public with a knowledge of only the hits (e.g. Vertigo, Sometimes) amongst others. Do the Bomb tracks get a good reception at shows? Yes. Do those on No Line get a good reception at live shows? No. So which is more rated with the public? One could argue ATYCLB tops both.

    Anyway - I love the bass breakdown on AMAAW.
  5. U2 are where they are today because of

    1) Live performances of the highest standards (in fact U2 set the standards)
    2) their hits.

    Never ever under estimate the importance of hits - the band would simply not exist if their back catalogue had very few hits - and thats what HTDAAB had in abundance - good strong singles.

    Mark my words - U2s next album will have hits - because even the band recognise they are important.

    As to this "hits" thingy, U2 never had many "hits". They're an album band. They had a few #1 singles, granted, but those are relatively rare.

    Thats what bands call themselves once they stop making bloody good singles that connect with the general public.

    Another album like NLOTH and I will agree with the previous poster - they will be an album band with people buying their albums because we always have done - not because they are any good.

    More hit singles please boys.
  11. Speaking objectively, I doubt U2 will have a hit single ever again. They are a rock band that are, well, aging. I understand that some might disagree, but I see the general public liking their rock n' roll stars...young.

    For the record, I will always buy their...records.
