1. I just want to see this new movie.
  2. Here's one of the complaints I don't understand.

People seem to be very heartbroken about the fact that we aren't getting a live CD. Out of the shows they would probably use for such a cd, we already have great quality recordings of them up on this site (Washington, Stockholm, Dublin, Adelaide, Milan, etc.). I don't really understand why this is an issue...

The only things I think could've been done better were a full concert from 92, such as Stockholm or Washington on DVD, not CD. Something along the same lines as the Paris show in the JT remaster. Like I've said before though, maybe there was a good reason to not include them. Or maybe here was something holding them back from using it. They released the Paris show, so why wouldn't they release a Zoo show? I feel as though they would have had something not hindered them from doing so. Sure they have Sydney, but they have to know all of the fans already have it. Maybe they included it because they couldn't include any other concert DVD, so they thought "Well we have to get them A concert DVD.." Or maybe I'm just being an optimist and they just figured "Hey, we already have Sydney all re-done and nice, just include that and we'll save time and money". Who knows. Maybe someone can ask it on that livechat via twitter.

And the second thing, is they should've done Zooropa seperately, or just done it better. They made it seem like an accessory, when really it's a whole "album" in itself. They should've either given it its own reissue box, or do something like a ZooTV box instead of an Achtung Baby box, where they'd include all of the Zooropa B-sides as well, and perhaps two different concert DVD's, one from 92 and the Sydney show, or maybe something else like the Adelaide show.

Either way, I'm still happy with what we're getting. I wasn't expecting to get something miraculous and that would please us diehard fans to the fullest, so I'm not completely let down. Don't get me wrong, I would've loved to get something better, and by better I mean what we SHOULD be getting (A bootleg show, yadda yadda yadda) but there's no point in crying over spilt milk. Buy it if you like it, don't if ya don't. I completely support anyone who's boycotting it to send U2 a message, but I'm still psyched to get my uber set

This is of course, just my opinion.

    Alex

P.S Rummy, I'm also super psyched to see the new movie. Guggenheim won't disappoint, and I'm pumped to see the material.
  3. The new movie is one of the reasons why I might "fold" and buy the Super-Deluxe edition of the reissue. Otherwise I think I'll just be buying the standard single disc as a treat to myself.

    You raise good points:

The recent redo of the Washington probably wouldn't be improved upon by that much - at least in terms of audio and i believe noiseless is still working on an improvement of the Stockholm show. To be frank, this show sounds rather weak along side the new DC remaster.

Would have loved a release of the Milan 92 show.

Zoorapa has no business being with the set.

I agree with alot of what you have said here.Im glad, you are excited about this release. My point about live material not being released,is that,U2 have never released live cd's.That has always annoyed the shit out of me.And that is my point.I take issue with that. Are they ever going to release a double live CD ? They havent, and after 30 years, I dont think they will.I gave up long ago waiting for a double live cd from them. They cant be bothered obviously.Yes,we have the boots. But they are amature bootleg recordings.Wouldnt you rather have a professionally recorded show,of say Stockholm or Milan, or the bootleg ? The Milan show, sounds just like what it is,a bootleg.Stockholm doesnt sound great to me either. Why should it,the band didnt release it.I would have ran out and pre-ordered this, if say,one of the 1992 Yankee Stadium gigs were a part of this release. But thats not the case.Any great show from 1992 would have been great. Boston,03.17.92 comes to mind.I loved that show.It might be one of the best shows I have ever attended. The band waited 20 years to release the Paris DVD,and shocked me by making it available in mp3 form on iTunes.Again, this would have pleased me if they did this with AB.This could have been a grand, monumental release. It is not.

As for including a DVD from 1992,I would have liked that. The show changed quite a bit by the end of 1993.As far as Im concerned, that was the Zooropa tour at that point.

By including Zooropa, and the Sydney DVD,(something the band obviously knows we have) and not bothering to even remaster this release, is a very lazy, selfish move IMO.They are throw in's.Zooropa has nothing to do with AB.They werent even recorded at the same time,as Kid A and Amnesiac were. The fans are being taken for granted here.I cant convince myself to get this.Thats bad.I have always, without hesitation, gone out to buy anything by this band.If I bought this,I would feel as if Im being ripped off.I hate to say that, but that is just how I feel.Thats not crying over spilled milk. Its just a sad fact.

Ask yourself this....If this release is not remastered, and there is no other unreleased material on it........then why buy something that you already have ????

Fuck it,dont get it.Im not.By not buying it,will speak volumes to this band. You dont "have" to buy it cause its U2.Its a lazy money grab. And worse, they didnt bother to make it a great remastered rerelease.

    I bought the deluxe remasters from the 1980s from U2,and like them alot.But,in truth,they are very overpriced.UF super deluxe,2cd/dvd when released 2 years ago,was $69.99.Its a beautiful set,but that price is madness.I bought it,this year,for $30 on Amazon.I just checked today,its listed at $31.04.A very good price.

Look at Pearl Jams remastered re-releases of Ten,Vs and Vitology. They are,of course, remastered, have extra tracks, and live material.

    Ten (deluxe 2cd/dvd edition),released last year.CD 1 is remastered.CD 2 remastered AND remixed,plus 6 bonus tracks.DVD of the unreleased 1992 MTV unplugged performance.The price...$29.99

    Vs/Vitology (3 cd deluxe edition) released this year.CD1 VS remastered,plus 3 bonus tracks.CD2 Vitology,remastered,plus 3 bonus tracks.CD3 unreleased live show from Boston,04.12.94,16 tracks.PLUS an mp3 download,from the 10 club,of 6 live tracks,not included on the live cd,from the same Boston gig.So thats 3 cd's,plus a 6 song mp3 download for......$37.48.Not bad huh.

That,is how you treat a re-release.Remastered,rare live and unreleased tracks. AFFORDABLE.Wait a while for the AB release. The price, after the holidays, will drop bigtime.

This is advice i am going to take ,,,,,still saddens me that the soundtrack to my 20's is getting a piss poor re-release............
  6. Depeche does U2…

Depeche Mode were recently approached by the U2 camp to contribute a track to an upcoming U2 covers collection, supposedly accompanying a re-issue of “Achtung Baby”. And so it was that Depeche Mode ended up recorded their version of U2′s “So Cruel”. The track, recorded in Santa Barbara and New York is produced by Depeche Mode’s very own Martin Gore, with lead vocals by Dave Gahan. Sie Medway Smith was on hand with engineering and mixing.

  7. So Glasvegass, Depeche Mode. I wonder which other bands will be covering a AB song.
  8. So Cruel is perfect the way it is, just perfect.

    Great news!
  10. I think Depeche Mode's cover could actually be alright. Shitevegas on the other hand...
  11. Man after reading Guggenheim talk about From The Sky Down on that latest article, I'm really really excited for it! Especially the unseen footage (Bono raging in a dressing room!) Wow I'm stoked.
