  2. From the best to the worst, though some are on the same quality level, IMHO:

    The Fly - Gavin Friday (9/10) -> Top interpretation of THE single. Gavin has balls and know-how.
    Acrobat - Glasvegas (8/10) - Excellent cover, almost as good as the original. Don't like the band but loved this cover. They put a lot of power on the drums.
    So Cruel - Depeche Mode (8/10) - Grows on you. The electronic feeling to it and Dave's voice make this a very interesting piece of work.
    Ultraviolet (Light my Way) - The Killers (8/10) - Love the band and love the cover.
    Until the End of the World - Patti Smith (7/10) - Don't listen much to Patti Smith but she has SOUL and a f*cking great voice.
    Tryin' to Throw Your Arms Around the World - The Fray (7/10) - Didn't know The Fray. Excellent way to adapt a U2 song to their own sound.
    Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses - Garbage (7/10) - POWER! Very good cover of a difficult to cover song.
    Love is Blindness - Jack White (7/10) - Man, Jack has learned some tricks in the meantime. Love his voice delivering the lyrics with passion.
    Mysterious Ways - Snow Patrol (5/10) - Not bad but far from what I expected Snow Patrol to do. Too calm for a dance song.
    Zoo Station - NiN (4/10) - NiN should break the house with this song and they didn't. It's a pity. Could be one of the best covers.
    One - Damien Rice (0/10) - This cover ruins the whole disc and should be replaced with a version with Mary J. Blige singing.

    Before anyone says I'm a lunatic, I hate almost every U2 cover in the world. It's amazing that in this CD there are songs that I will actually listen to again.

  8. I'm only halfway through listening to the album - just coming to MW, but I quite like Damien Rice's version. He changes to "you's" to "me's" to put a new emphasis on it.

    Not keen on Patti Smith's UTEOTW. Lacks the power needed to take that song somewhere.

    Agree with almost everyone else about NIN and ZS - why, oh why, with a band as powerful as that did the song end up as tame?

    Really don't like WGRYWH, and I'm a fan of Garbage. It sounds to me (although I've only heard it once) that they've stuck two completey different versions they have done together and they don't quite gel.

    Looking forward to the rest of it on my drive to and from my 5-a-side football tonight!

  11. I wouldn't say it's that bad but it's fairly mellow (even by his own standards). The lyric changes add absolutely nothing aswell.

    It just doesn't do any justice to such an Epic song.
    I really agree with Dave Gahan's (Depeche Mode) words on not covering One.
    "It would be almost sacriligeous".
    Damien Rice probably had the hardest task... and I guess that shows.
    The cover is way too slow/boring and the little lyric changes do not improve it a single bit.

    Ok, it may not be the worst thing in the world... but it is the worst cover in this disc IMO.
