1. I wish I knew, I'm just glad I got to see them more than once, but yeah, don't bitch about 'relevance', Bono. I would just go with whatever musically excites you and throw that in the mix, then let whatever sales and airplay come to you. It worked before, right?
  2. They've accomplished so much that they should care about relevance - they don't need to.
  3. I hope this not will be happen Until the end of the world ....
  4. I just read an article which mentions Guggi...it says he read Bono some break up history from a tabloid, and Bono didn't know what to answer

first time ever Bono had nothing to say it scares me a lot
  6. I admit that I've thought about this a few times, and it does worry me, but I have had a lot of memorable times as a fan that I suppose I could be very thankful for the amazing things I have seen from them over the years. It's better to go out on top if it has to come to this...I'd be even more depressed if they were still doing this in their 70s and they have a two year stand at the Tropicana or something. If they were still doing this in their 70s and STILL selling out stadiums, well....well, let's just say I wouldn't be surprised either, haha.
  7. i don't think they'll quit before making another album at least; i reckon they'd want to go out with a bang commercially and make a spectacle of it (ie. a farewell tour). the way the band has semi-dismissed NLOTH over the past year or two leads me to believe they wouldn't be as comfortable leaving it at that as bono is making out.
  8. Given the impressions from recent interviews I didn't get the feeling they want to quit from being U2. They have a kind of struggle for "relevance". Bono pointed out that it's very important for the band to be played on the radio, and that he doesn't know if they can have a no. 1 hit again on any future album, thus they were very dissappointed by the "commercial failure" of NLOTH.
But I feel there's also a strong sense of "proving themselves" to the music world again. They mentioned they will only release a new album if they think it's really fresh and new (prolly a reinvented U2) so people have a good reason to buy another U2 record. I strongly believe they want to show the world that they still can do it. So it seems they are at the same point they were at the end of the 80s.

Also, they have a contract with Live Nation that only ends in 2020 if I'M not completely wrong. I'm sure they'll do at least 2 more tours before they say goodbye.
  9. Nothing ever hurt a bid of hype while you aren't promoting an album.

There' no such thing as bad (news) publicity.

    This +1

And especially because of the AB release and that they are in a same kind of situation now as they were back then.
  11. I think this is all reading too much into anything and I am a bit puzzled why people have surmised they are breaking up. I think it's all a bit manufactured and media driven speculation. Bono's comment "maybe you will hear from us in 2012 maybe you wont" seems more about an album or show in 2012 than breaking up. And I think he has a lot of angst about the next album not selling as well or U2 becoming less popular but I really don't see that as breaking up comments..

And what about the Live Nation deal? Would they have signed that if a breakup was imminent?

Now having said all that the 2 things that worry me a bit 1) are Guggi's comment - not sure why he would say that, and 2) Larry's success in the movie business...maybe he wants a mid / later life career change.

But overall I think we've got another album and another tour to go yet.
