1. It's always shocking to see Bono with an electric guitar... and even more if it's not his usual Gretsch! And even more if it's a Les Paul (I had never seen him with one of these):

  2. Awesome picture! Sometimes I wish he'd pull out a differen coloured guitar for once But his green telecaster was awesome at the end of last tour.

I just bought a guitar guys..! I saw it in the store on the shelf. It was like seeing a traffic jam full of silver, black, white, dark red and dark blue cars, and then all of the sudden you see one car that totally stands out. I went over to try it, it was a telecaster, and as a rule of thumb I never look at the make of a fender before I try it out (whether it's mexican, highway 1, american, etc.) because I feel once you know what it is you already have some sort of bias towards it. So I started playing this thing and immediately said "Wow this thing kicks ass! It plays and sounds perfect!" I played it for about an hour, then finally looked at the make and the price tag, and it's a Mexican made Telecaster in "Lake Placid Blue" colour. I was blown away by the playability of this guitar, being mexican. I've tried mexican teles and strats in the past (used to own a mexican strat) and they didn't play very well in comparison to the americans, but this tele plays better then most americans I've played.

I guess when you hear those guys say "With Fender, it's almost like there's 50 strats on a wall, but only one of them is great". Maybe that holds true with this tele, I dunno, either way it's awesome. Went back the next day and bought it after playing it more. I'll take pictures soon, after putting a pearloid pickguard on it, because I think that would make it look even more awesome.

Seemed to be using the black Les Paul early on. That lead to the 'metallic' finish Les Paul.

Which I think could be the black Les Paul that had been refinished. (Unconfirmed)

Soon enough, he took delivery of the red sparkle and blue sparkle Gibson ES-175's and those would replace the Les Paul on the tour.

  6. Impressive as usual, Jeff
  7. The Edge and Fractal Audio Axe FX II

Summer of 2010 I ran into Dallas at Guitar Center Hollywood. Amongst other topics, I told him about the Fractal Audio Axe FX.

I told him that I'd forward the info to him at Principle Management the following Monday.

Seems he was interested enough to check it out.

I've heard some in-ear monitor mixes from the S. American shows where Edge mentions Fractal during soundcheck. Seems he was A/B-ing sounds.

It also seems that it will be used, at least for smaller promo shows as one was in his rack for the Oct 15th, 2011 Clinton Decade of Difference show at the Hollywood Bowl.

Have a good look at this photo from the Clinton Decade of Difference. Look at the unit in the bottom of the rack. Big square green display.

Now look at the Axe FX II. (At the link below)

  8. Ah. Trick of the eyes.

Turns out that is a Tubescreamer in a pedal drawer.

    Oh well. D'oh.

  10. Anyone have any good advice about multi-effects pedalboards? I'm thinking about putting one on my x-mas list

As always, it depends on your budget and your requirements.

This is regarded as the best pocket-sized multi effect modeller:

    http://line6.com/pocketpod/

Although it's not suitable for live playing.

If you want to play live (and if you have a lil' bigger budget) you can aim at something like this:

    http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=1001

It knocks at somewhere around the 220-250 € and it's an excellent piece of gear for that price. For that same price, you can look at the Vox Tonelab EX ( http://www.thomann.de/gb/vox_tonelab_ex.htm ), although I've found that Vox stuff is slightly harder to use and modify than the Boss products. Although it's not something you shouldn't be able to sort out with the instructions and a good dose of patience
  12. What about the Line6 Pod HDs?
