  1. Coldplay have struck gold tonight. They are playing live on the final of the X Factor in the UK. Approx TV audience 18 million. U2 missed a trick there, as that is how you stay relevent, win new fans and invest in the future of the band.
  2. Absolutely agree with paulc. Do anybody know if it will be shown live anywhere? I can watch the BBC (any of the channels) if neccesary. I just need to know the hour and the channel Thanks in advance!!
  3. ITV 1 at 8pm is when The X Factor starts I think.

    I don't agree. Playing on The X Factor is low, and saying that "U2 missed a trick there" is garbage. U2 would get absoutely slated for going on The X Factor, it's just that Coldplay are more 'cooler' than U2, and how popular they are in the charts at the moment, that they don't get grilled for it. It's a way of selling out effectively, and I've lost a bit of respect for Coldplay.

    That's my opinion, though.

  6. I didnt see the Children In Need performance but I reckon at Wembley Arena in front of 10,000 people they might just raise their game. I just think that Bono wants them to be on the radio again, and this would be a way of 'connecting' with a new audience. Anyway, enjoy. I think its Coldplays time now and they are the biggest band on ther planet (hurts for me to say but I think its true).

  8. Kieran, I see you have a point on Coldplay selling themselves out, but I think that's not neccesarely a bad thing. I mean, X Factor and the other talent programs might be crap as proper TV products and everything you want, ok, but they're also the craddle for many potential future artists. I mean, Top Of The Pops was also a crappy&creepy TV program back in the day, but you know which band performed lipsynched there in 1981 and 1983 (twice)... Maybe Bono and the dudes wouldn't have had their success without some of their selling-out to TV programs like TOTP back in the 80s (they've done it on 2000, 2004 and 2009 too...).
  9. They also performed 3 times in 2000 on TOTP, plus a saturday morning kids TV programme (countdown UK) to do just what Coldplay are doing tonight. I guess that when you are 40 its kinda acceptable, maybe 50 would be a bit too much. Anyway, I just wish it was U2.

    Well, it's a little bit of a bad thing. You really have to be desperate to go on The X Factor. It's a program for desperate people in my eyes. If you notice that there is a trend through The X Factor. It creates future artists, yes, but those 'future artists' go out of popularity very quickly. The first winner of The X Factor, funnily enough, didn't want to be a music artist anymore so he wasted a spot. Others that include Shayne Ward: he went out of fashion quickly, Leona Lewis: she lasted long but is now declined, Leon Jackson (the only contestant I actually liked) is now nowhere to be heard of, and so are the rest of them. Anyway, I'm baffling off about my hatred on The X Factor... We should be taking about Coldplay

    I do see your point, but everyone has been on Top of the Pops. It was a chart show effectively, it wasn't an act of desperation. If you had a new single out, you would go on that to promote it. Yes, Coldplay are promoting themselves on The X Factor, but they are really getting desperate now to go on The X Factor. They are taking any opportunity now that they've taken The X Factor. They've surely done enough promotion without going on The X Factor. Even if Rihanna or JLS or One Direction or any other of the shite artists these days go on The X Factor, they are classed as sell-outs (even though they are already sell-outs.

    I'm really disappointed in Coldplay for accepting this though. They are rock stars for christ sake.

    Struck gold? It's reputational suicide. Lost what little credability they had.
  12. U2 - Apple - I pod advert 2004

    U2 accepted this opportunity to do an advert for the i pod because
    1) - They loved the technology
    2) They knew millions of people would hear their song on the advert when it was on TV.

    There is not a huge amount of difference between that and appearing on the X Factor in my opinion.
