    They do if they fall under the Live Nation Entertainment umbrella, because ultimately, Live Nation wins. Ticketmaster already has the details of all those who bought tickets through their site, so it's easy for Live Nation to utililise that and try and bring in extra subscribers. Part of the Live Nation/U2 deal was Live Nation looking after merchandising:

    Its partnership with U2 will now include merchandise and licensing rights, sponsorship and strategic alliances, digital rights, fan club/Web sites and other marketing and creative services. - Reuters

    So, since Ticketmaster is a subsidiary of Live Nation Entertainment alongside Live Nation Concerts, then I guess overall, Ticketmaster do get something out of it.

I mean, of course having more U2.com subscribers would eventually (in a few year's time, when U2 tours again) mean an increase on Ticketmaster's/LiveNation's incomes, but it seems like a somehow strange and distant marketing strategy. BTW, I'm specifically referring to what puzzles me, and it's the fact they're sending out emails with 2 specific and random song details from a release, not promoting U22 as a whole (I can understand why they'd do that). But sending out an email to a person (who purchased a ticket for a show something between one and three years ago, and might or might not be interested in subscribing to U2.com) telling which shows are One and Walk On taken from is pretty bizarre.
  4. If Live Nation are making money because they're handling the U2.com fan club, then Live Nation Entertainment will be seeing an immediate income.

    As for the contents of the e-mail, I haven't recieved one, so I'm going on what others have said, but it does seem a little odd to reveal the location of two random tracks. I assume it did promote U22 as the ultimate U2 360 souvenier and in doing so revealed some locations. For all I know, the e-mail could've said "Tracks like EBTTRT from Mexico, One from Scotland, ISHFWILF from South Africa, Walk On from Croatia."

    Note: The location for Walk On doesn't have a specific date attached, so I assume the e-mail simply referred to either the city or country.

  7. I don't know, if Live Nation are having an input in what U2 releases outside their album work, I think we have something to possibly look forward to in the future. U22 is something we haven't seen before as fans, the chance to vote for what we want and ultimately ending up with a great collection of tracks from the tour that are produced to a high quality. The selection wasn't even that safe really, they offered us rarities such as Zooropa, Electrical Storm, Your Blue Room etc. so credit for that.

    Then there was the participation in Record Store Day. Wide Awake In Europe, whilst short, was a fairly good effort. Giving us a high quality version of Mercy and, in my opinion, a great performance of Moment of Surrender, if not just a notable performance due to the 'rap'. Crazy Tonight is debatable because of the mixed reviews it's had, but they didn't play safe with the tracks.

    Duals was ripped apart, but again, I'd like to at least offer some praise in giving us some more live collaborations. I think Duals was probably released because Live Nation/U2 wanted to document some of the recent live duets. Sunday Bloody Sunday with Jay-Z, two tracks with the Soweto Gospel Choir and Stuck In A Moment with Mick Jagger, which although wasn't 360, it fell in the period that they became partners.

    Artificial Horizon was ultimately a remix CD, but again some live tracks were incorporated. Crazy Tonight, again but also Staring At The Sun, from Rotterdam 1997. Possibly the furthest away from U22 and the live track documentation at present, but it was relevent. It featured four remixes of tracks from NLOTH, three previously unreleased by U2 remixes and eight tracks that were heavily featured on the tour.

    I like Artificial Horizon, Wide Awake In Europe and looking forward to U22. Duals is disappointing, but I will give credit for throwing the live tracks in for the fans. Artificial Horizon could've been better, I'll happily admit but a few tracks more than make up for that.

    If all of the above are a result of Live Nation input, then I'm not going to complain. Obviously though, they can't keep churning out 360 tracks until something new comes, but at present, I'm happy overall with what has been released since 2009. It could've been a lot worse I guess.

    Maybe next year it'll be a Zooropa thing (2013 being 20 years after 1993) but probably not because it was included in the Achtung Baby set. Shame.
  9. Outstanding performance of WOWY imo... I have so much respect for Bono. He can still sing such a tough song vocally live at his age and so long after it was originally recorded..
  10. ^ LOL, in my opinion WOWY was at its worst ever during the 360 tour! I haven't lsitened to the U22 version, though. I will do it later and judge it...

  12. I agree.. It's been a bit of a hit and miss song this tour.. I suppose my praise for this version is within the context of the 360 tour as a whole..
