1. This might actually be what U2 is waiting for: the commercial tie in. I actually think it's really smart to release a single with some other platform because the popularity of the song and the platform play into each other. Coldplay is releasing a new track as a part of the new Hunger Games move soundtrack. I'm willing to bet the success of that single will depend on the success of that movie.

In either case, timing their release is crucial. But if they had a killer single, they could just screw timing and take the world by storm whenever they wanted to. I guess U2 just want people to ride the hype train a bit longer.

    Playstation 4 anyone?
  3. I think we should just write the new U2 album - it'd be faster...

They had great promotion for the whole album; SYCMIOYO was featured on The O.C., Vertigo was also on CSI and OOTS had its own commercial too.
  5. .... And now I'm listening to Bomb. Thanks everyone
  6. Bomb actually has aged really well in my opinion. I've been listening to COBL, Sometimes, and Miracle Drug more than anything off Leave Behind or Horizon. Kind of hope they go back to something as deep and meaningful as Sometimes but I don't know if Bono has it in him (MOS comes close though imo)
  7. ^ Same here, been playing pretty much everything off it lately except Vertigo and Sometimes.

It really has come quite well nearly ten years later (!!!).
  8. i agree with the advertising link. remember mr mcguinnes is involved and its almost definitely their/his last chance to make real big money.
  9. Relevance is...

..creating music that defines other music.

Unfortunately this band are being defined too much by the music around them.

That they don't appear to have given up on the charts as an indication of success is a little bit depressing, not to mention mind-boggling. They didn't get their first UK no. 1 until 'Desire' so why they place that much credence to it is bizarre. On the other hand they're simply not what itunes would class as an alternative & punk group, which is the other popular end of the spectrum. They're caught somewhere in the middle of nowhere between two diverging areas of music in which case I don't think U2 can be prominent.

If this isn't their last album, then it should be.

which is not the best way to make a good music.

Spot on. Nowadays the music world has polarized itself into two big groups. On one side there's easy pop, electro-pop, R&B and all that kind of music (ranging from Lady Gaga to even the likes of Coldplay's recent material, with Katy Perry, Capital Cities, Adele, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna and other big acts caught there), and on the other side there's alternative and indie rock (from Muse to The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, RHCP, Kings Of Leon, Pearl Jam, etc). Of course there are many other bands that can't/shouldn't be categorized into those big groups, but most of the bands and artists that sell out arenas can.

And well, U2 doesn't fall into any of them. And even though most of us are ok with them not belonging to any, I'm afraid they sadly want to fall in the first one.
  12. They want to fall in to the first one because of the relevance and money but I truely hope they don't want to be in the first group because of the music....
