Same here man. I liked the faster one much better. It had this freeing and exciting feeling to it.

  2. Yeah, the chorus gives you a very liberating feeling, I know exactly what you mean. It's the kind of thing that you want to sing at the top of a mountain or something.

Edit: Also, at 3:35, 11 O' Clock Tick Tock would make a mean snippet.
  3. Heard this song for the first time a couple of days ago, i must say i prefer the linear version above the newer version.
Only one thing that bothers me are the strings at the beginning, could be beautiful, but now they just sound fake (I know it are synthesizers).
But I absolutely love the transitions and the guitar playing
  4. I like the linear version way better, I love Winter, it's in my most played list in Itunes as is the original Mercy, but hey they fucked up that one too (in MY opinion!)
  5. Bump. Great song imo. Should've been on the album for sure.

    At twenty-one
    I was born a son
And on that day I knew
    I could kill

    Love those lyrics.
  7. Bump...

Really digging the brothers version of this song! I know some of you don't like it but there's something about it that really works with the changing of the seasons. In this U2 drought these obscure tracks are really fun to go back to.

Yeah, the Brothers version was always much more likeable than the Linear one. The violins and the gregorian chants were (and are) creepy as hell. Still a bland song... Still better than some on NLOTH.

I really like both versions, but yeah, they feel unfinished.

    Still, those opening lyrics...

    "The yellow sun,
    Well it took the hand,
    Of a country boy,
To a city in a far off land.

    We made no mark,
    No shadow at all,
    On the ancient holy streets,
    Where I learned to crawl."
  10. Agree with the both of you. Winter has potential in both directions, but there's something about the, "so glad you made it home" along with the strings getting louder and louder that moves me still. I'm making a friend a mix CD for his trip coming up and I think I'm going to end it with Winter the Brothers version
  11. Mix the beginning of the Linear version with the ending of the Brothers version and you've got a fine song.
And the middle of Get on your Boots
  12. NLOTH could have been fucking amazing if they had of cut out Crazy, Boots, Stand Up Comedy, White as Snow, and Cedars. Replace those 5 songs with Mercy, All My Life, North Star, Every Breaking Wave and Winter, IMO that album is close to perfect.

    1. No Line on the Horizon
    2. Magnificent
    3. Unknown Caller
    4. Mercy
    5. All My Life
    6. Breathe
    7. North Star
    8. Fez- Being Born
    9. Winter
    10.Every Breaking Wave
    11. Moment of Surrender

^some people probably think that it's crap, but hey, that's the beauty of opinions.
