How many fans would have a collection consisting of no more than something like Red Rocks + ZooTV Sydney + Elevation Slane + 360 Rose Bowl (just 3-5 live shows) besides whatever number of studio albums (maybe only the most well known ones)?... I'd guess that that's the majority of fans.

That would mean that they'd have a rather distorted view of what can be considered a "rarity".

Take Ultraviolet for instance... I'd say it'd be common for many fans to listen Achtung Baby regularly and check the Sydney show every once in a while... for all those fans Ultraviolet is/was far from a "rarity".

Just the same way that they don't care how many times some songs have been played in the last 20 years... they're not listening to them (unlike us) every single day in a couple of bootlegs.

My definition of "live rarities" would be either songs never played regularly before, or songs not played recently from the early 80's. Anything from The Joshua Tree onwards that has been played with some regularity in any tour wouldn't really surprise me.

(obviously this is the way I feel about it, I know that most likely everybody in here feels way different about it, but I just wanted to say it )

(this also has to do with getting old... I think of the 90's as if it had happened rather recently, and I see anything from the new millenium as brand new, so I struggle to feel the time gap between tours )
Totally agree been a U2 fan since Boy Live Rarities to me are pre Joshua Tree and not NYD SBS IWF or Pride

  2. I like the new look, but now that you mentioned that, they look like Guess Who? characters...

Yes. About the guitar, as long as it doesn't break his spirit, they should be fine. He enriched the sound of several songs, but that's replaceable, he's not.

I think/hope it'll be more like zoo TV... First the new songs (mixed with some early stuff), although now with a more dramatic conclusion and then a second half of greatest hits, 90% of this half alternating every other night

Tbh, I'd really like something like that... I have a bit of ADD and usually by encore time I'm like "another song?", like in a great buffet when you're full but you still want to eat more, but you know that you're full, but...

Or maybe because I'm used to soccer, but I'm finding the half time interesting.
  3. Damnit, I got out for a couple of hours and the most breaking news since Bono's accident pop out I havne't been able to read the artible yet but all I've read so far looks good. Also, Miracle Drug being rehearsed gives me good hopes that they eventually ignore One Step Closer. Please please please.

Both songs might be in reference to Bono's health condition/bike adventures lately...
  5. If I understand correctly, they've rehearsed Bullet a couple of times with One Step Closer immediately following each time. I think they've found a transition, and I'm actually really hoping they use it, I really think that could work well and would make One Step Closer more interesting.

But that means... Running To Stand Still might not follow immediately after Bullet...!
  6. Er......I'm not a negative person, but I am a bit relieved that this is the first tour since 1987 that I have decided not to attend. Nice to see so many new songs, but streets, pride and bad etc have already peaked some years ago.

Bono sounded bored/ lackadaisical singing streets on the 360 tour

Bono sounded bored during Streets on the 360 tour?!?? wth where have you been while all we others were taken away by his energy during that song?!?
  8. BAD Vancouver 2015 rehearsal
  9. More updates from Peter over at Interference:

-One was rehearsed on Monday. Edge electric guitar with Bono singing only for most of it then the band comes in for the final coda. Like EBW/WOWY I think these are 3 of the 5 songs that will feature strings.

Was just sent an email from another big fan that it was a short 4 song "set" tonight. All repeats, but starting the same SOI song 3 nights in a row looks like they decided their opening song well in advance for the first time since 2001. I'll keep in under wraps for a few more days but I've told Axver PM.

2 nights in a row have had the Better/Desire transition(Larry on kit for both) which is going to a be a killer 1-2 punch early in the set.

    Time for a U2Gigs update
  10. Even Better/Desire combo We should have a smiley for that combo.
  11. And from u2gigs:
...A poster in atu2's forum has reported additional songs rehearsed on Wednesday. It appears that after the four-song set reported by Peter, the band came back for a later session. This included One Step Closer, City Of Blinding Lights, Where The Streets Have No Name, Ordinary Love, The Troubles, and With Or Without You featuring a Love Will Tear Us Apart snippet.

Here is the post (by atu2 member "So Cruel"):
Just got back from the Coliseum. Went down there with a friend and we were lucky enough to hear some songs. We were there for about 45 minutes before they ended. The one thing that shocked me a bit was how loud and how clear it was. We stood outside the front doors but were asked to leave a few times by security. Of course we didn't, we just walked a little further on down.

Here are the songs we heard.

One Step Closer - We got there pretty close to the end but it did sound really good.

City of Blinding Lights - Nothing really seemed to change, but Bono did speak some of the lyrics instead of sing. Maybe he was just saving his voice.

Where the Streets Have No Name - Sounded awesome. Bono was saying some sort of hymn at the beginning which gave me chills. Through the curtains we could see the arena was lit red. Bono didn't sing the full song. The second verse was just the music. Probably saving his voice again.

Ordinary Love - Not a fan of the song and it was at this point security was asking us to leave so not much to report on this one. We just walked further on down and they didn't keep bugging us.

The Troubles - I was very excited to hear this one. The Lykke Li part sounded like the album version and seemed to be recorded. I could make out through the curtain the video screen was lit up and you could see a woman's face and also Bono singing on the screen. Maybe this will be like Lou Reed on the Zoo TV tour for Satellite of Love.

With Or Without You - no big changes. Bono sang the Love Will Tear Us Apart line to end the song.

Really cool to be there and to hear them. The band sounded great and Bono seemed to be in pretty good form. I'm gonna try to get down there again a few more times in the next week.
  12. That user at atu2 is reliable, but in the past there was another user that supposedly saw the I+E stage design at u2.com before allegedly being taken down. Conveniently, he is "out 6 months for vacations with no internet, no laptop, nothing".
A lot of people want to have their 15 min. of fame, even within the message boards.
