I still think that we are getting a bit too spoiled with internet -wether if the band has to take that into account or not is a different matter-, but I can't see why they would feel the need to change some of that (i.e. I don't think they're doing anything wrong and I think they see it that way too).

    About the way it was advertised, yes, they talked about 2 different (feels) shows, but again, they never said anything about more than 2. I agree that if someone bought tickets to 2 back to back shows based on the early talk that person has some right to be upset. If you got 3 or more based on that, then no, that's 100% on you.

    But -and this is my main point- the band doesn't play for streams, youtube and bootlegs. They totally shouldn't give a shit if someone has watched more than 2 shows (specially if it's not live) and think that the shows are repetitive or fixed or with not enough rotation.

    We're supposed to watch/experience ONE show (ok, maybe TWO because of the advertising), and that's what the band should be focused. If they decide to do a bit more, great for them. But I really find it... uncomfortable... when we keep watching/listening to all the shows in a way the band didn't intended us to do it and then we complain about it. It's like listening to a rehearsal and then complain that the song is not very well played.

  4. Only a handful of artists/bands are known for doing that.
    U2 is not one of them.

    Only a handful of artists/bands are known for setting up a show that combines video/technology/hits/new songs in a very carefully detailed way.
    U2 is one of them. The bands with a really high rotational setlists are not.

    Wishing/Expecting/Demanding that U2 should rotate more is like wishing/expecting/demanding that Mike Nolan started making comedies or that the Farrelly brothers started making high budget fantasy sci-fi action adventure sagas.
  5. what with all the talk about possibly changing the setlist a lot before the tour, it's ironic to see that this tour's setup allows only few changes - if not even less than any other tour of theirs - (due to the screen animations and "story" they tell etc) ... and for that fact, I still think they shake it up as best as they can
  6. Actually, it's a lot better than other U2 tours: 38 songs so far in only 11 shows, no covers, no Happy Birthdays. The first 20 ZooTV shows were identical, no changes whatsoever, Popmart only changed the last 2 minutes after One, etc.
  7. Setlists are not the problem. We are. U2 have a 'show' on the road and as such, certain elements and themes will remain relatively static. This only becomes an issue when you check every single setlist, every single night. It isn't normal. A comedian tells the same jokes every night when on tour. We have to accept that big musical acts are mostly going to stick to a relatively similar formula.

    Check a setlist every 2 weeks and you might be a little happier with the variations.

    It annoys me... We go crazy over Zoo and popmart, look at those sets. Even Joshua Tree and UF has repeated sets.

  11. Just to be clear. What I have against setlist-criticism is that it subjects art - or entertainment - to a quantitative valuation. Particulairy if such valuations are being made without attending the actual show itself. Now if such measurements are being made to substantiate the claim that tickets were sold under false pretences, I understand and perhaps even sympathize because, as a principle, it is not good to lie and break ones promise - the band did, however, said that they changed there minds. And I would also like to recall the "whats your favorite song" twitter thing organized by u2.com of which nothing is heard ever since.
    Anyway, all of this has not stopped u2 from an awesum start of the tour. Awesum because the performences are usually very good, and last night even outstanding (personally I also think that San Jose 2 was outstanding).

    And if it is true that Sil personally was able to convince Bono of adding more different songs, than she is even a more remarkle person than I thought.

    Thank you. That was my only gripe! I've been a U2 fan fir over 20 years. I know they don't rotate sets at all. But all the talk before I bought tickets was about different sets every night. Now it's different. All I was saying is that I felt a little bait and switched. I don't need everyone throwing stats at me like I don't know.
