You're in a nice spot in Ballsbridge, but stay away from Temple Bar, its just a spot for publicans to squeeze tourists of their money. Visit the Trabant in the Hard Rock Cafe though

Pubs wont be empty midweek, but obviousky wont be as busy as a weekend. Reasonable prices are hard to come by, you're looking at anywhere from 4.60 to almost 6 euro per pint, with the odd exception of course. Places will do specials on pitchers or multiple bottles. The Living Room is a massive bar at the end of O'Connell St and would do decent prices. And The Central on O'Connell St also is a nice spot.

Taxi to Ballsbridge from City Centre would probably be around a tenner, but hopefully not more than fifteen euro, with the weather as it is at the moment you'll probably find that walking isnt too appealing. Sorry, I wouldn't know those kind of rates too accurately though.

I suppose "a pint" in Dublin is a 50cl-pint? In that case prices of 5 euro are still ""ok"" because in Belgium a 25cl-beer also costs 2-2,5 euro in touristic area's.

Lagoona bar will be on the schedule to have some pre-concert drinks on Tuesday, but that bar looks a little bit to fancy/trendy to be there all time, so on Monday night we prefer some more "authentic" pubs. But as long there is a good ambience and pubs doesn't looks too empty, every pub is fine for me.

If you want authentic try The Sackville. And yes, pint = 526ml or something like that.
  3. I'll be in Dublin from 23rd to 25th November
  4. 568. Please hand in your Irish citizenship at any local embassy. Thanks.

You can visit Bono's house. I haven't been in many years but if the gates are still the same it's worth a visit - very cool !!
  6. What's so special about the gate because on pictures it looks like a normal gate? If it's not TOO rainy, I will visit Bono's neighbourhood. Not especially for his house, but it looks like a beautiful place with amazing views.
  7. I think it was 199? the last time I was there !! The gates had musical notes and other stuff that I can't quite remember on them.
  8. I've been at the hands of cans for too long it seems.

Bono's house gates include lyrics from some songs (notably One and The Fly), quotes from poets that are personal favourites of him and signatures and other stuff. It's actually pretty fucking cool.
  10. On an related/unrelated note, I won't be able to make it to Dublin. Flights were bought, ticket swap was arranged, days off work were confirmed... And then, less than 72 away from stepping on that plane, I learn that a sudden and ill-fated disease has just been diagnosed on my father in law and fucked it *all* up. The failed Dublin trip is now the smallest of my worries but I just had to let you know since I had arranged some meetings with people I really appreciate from this site. A Sort Of Homecoming will have to wait for me. Love to you all. Walk On.

Wishing you and P., and the rest of the family much, much strenght in these coming hard times.
And the very, VERY best to your father-in-law. Hope there is still time for the doctors to their miracle work...
