1. Tried watching the live Tidal Stream tonight.... not much luck due to Internet problems. Here is what I do know though - they said they weren't going to do a live stream from LA last week after everything happened in Paris (very respectful), but they did go ahead and play a set for the people that showed up. The set:

Imagine (yes, a John Lennon cover)
    Sparks (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
    Yellow
    Til Kingdom Come
Us Against the World (w/ new song "Birds" snippeted)
    Fix You
    O

Tonight they had the rescheduled concert... the set was a little more mainstream

A Head Full of Dreams (debut - still haven't heard it yet due to internet)
    Yellow
    Sky Full of Stars
    Paradise
    Amazing Day (meh)
    Teardrop is Waterfall
    Clocks
    Fix You
    Viva
    Adventure of A Lifetime
Up&Up (debut - only caught 30 seconds but those 30 seconds made me believe this could still be a good album/band)

I just wish they would realize they are just a better band by playing the first set 9 nights out of 10. I'm happy they aren't coming to America first, I am going to have to setlist watch in order to decide whether or not I want tickets to the upcoming tour.
  2. Listened to both A Head Full of Dreams and Up&Up in full - first impressions:

    Spoiler (click to toggle)

A Head Full of Dreams is Chris's attempt at A Sort of Homecoming - you can hear this in the first verse. Pretty good opener for a Coldplay show, a lot of energy and Johnny's guitar sounds good.

Up&Up - an upbeat album closer for once - what I heard originally was Johnny's guitar solo in the 30 seconds I heard from the stream - and I stand by what I said, those 30 seconds are phenomenal. Not sure how I felt about the rest of the song, reminded me of The Fray(?). Definitely meant for radio, but it was a good closer to that set.
  3. Interesting to see the sets change so much between days. Ironically, I'm not surprised you think Coldplay is better when they play their older material. MX blew up their entire fanbase with a near 50/50 split between those who like their new material and those who like their old stuff.
  4. I really enjoyed the MX tour, but I'm not gonna lie when I say I'd rather see a lot of the 1st set (Sparks was played for the first time since 2007 - I just wish it was Spies!) than Paradise and a Sky Full of Stars.
  5. That sound is so drastically different that I don't even know how they would be able to fit it in. Great songs regardless, but it's hard to make it work live. I'd rather see Charlie Brown over Paradise, but I think the mix of Paradise used for Live 2012 is probably one of their strongest live recordings. I like that it's highly piano driven.

On my wishlist of songs to hear are White Shadows and Low.

    Those are two great tunes.
  7. X & Y needs to get more of a look-in live, there are so many great songs on there that absolutely destroy in a live setting (Square One, Talk, White Shadows) and yet they only ever gloss over it with Fix You.

it's pretty much their Pop in that regard
  8. If Coldplay had a 'Pop' moment, it was Ghost Stories (or possibly this album) granted comparing artists like this goes against how I usually evaluate music unless they're a cover band

Review of the Belasco concert new material
AHFOD - It's a neat little opening song.
    Amazing Day - eh
AOAL - what the flying hell was that transition from Viva, ugh. It's still just okay.
Up and Up - I really, really like this song. If there's a song to look forward to on the album, it's this one.

No problem, Coldplay are a U2 cover band so it's valid
  10. I don't like the direction they are headed in. I liked X&Y, Paradise and AROBTTH. With Viva la Vida they lost me a little. Then when I bought Ghost Stories...

    Edit: Not Paradise, Parachutes.

    That was a little awkward

Forgetting MX and renaming Parachutes? MX was pretty much where they divided their fanbase, although you could argue the division started with VLV.
