1. Average but you gave it 7 out of 10?
  2. 6 max 6,5 in my opinion. Ghost stories was better and the first albums, first three, are always the best
  3. I haven't actually listened to this album yet, I keep constantly seeing bad reviews which have put me off slightly. I'm now getting curious, might have to listen to it.

As for their best album, I'd have to say Viva La Vida. The "Achtung Baby" moment for them.

    yep. their best tour too
  5. My rating perspective is heavily influenced by a school's grading scale. 75% is considered average by most grade scales and 70% is often the minimum threshold required to pass a course. By this logic, anything less than 5/10 might as well be a 0/10 to me.

Allow me to give you some insight into my scoring process, but I think my text explanation does a sufficient job already.

An average album to me is defined by an album I wouldn't mind listening to and wouldn't mind purchasing under the right circumstances (price, availability, etc). If I were to purchase this album, I wouldn't buy anything more than a digital copy (which is what I ended up doing). Any album that I can listen to in full and not have the immediate feeling that it was a complete waste of time is at least average. Slightly below average albums are ones I don't mind listening to, but probably would never buy. Albums I can't stand listening to at all I would give below 6/10.

On the other hand, above average albums are ones that I listen to a lot and would be willing to spend more money on to acquire physical copies, special edition copies, etc.

I'm honestly pretty surprised I have to defend my rating scale on this site, especially since I gave explanations for each song, but whatever.
  6. But to appeal to the Coldplay bashers of this community, if you thought their past two albums (MX and Ghost Stories) were bad, don't bother with this album because they are still walking down that road. If you are on the fence about buying the album and haven't heard it yet, don't buy it without first listening to it in full.
  7. I think Alex's non U2 inspired review of this new album is probably the most interesting out of anything I've seen on here. Take notes, people.

We all score differently. I don't describe an album as average and then give it 7 out of 10, I'd say it's good to very good. Rating an album by school grades is a bit silly if I'm honest. You fail at school and that's it. Album might have a couple of songs on it that are really good, but you might still give it 4 or 5. The whole "if it's 5 then it may as well be 0" is nonsense also. You may as well just not have a rating system in that situation.

You're surprised? We don't all pay attention to you.

Actually, a lot of people look at ratings from the same view with 70% representing an average score. This can be seen on Yelp, product purchasing sites, and movie review sites as well. If something is getting a 50% rating, it's going to be straight up ignored and that is definitely not the "average" response. The minimum threshold for products to generally be considered on most purchasing sites is 3.5 stars out of 5, which calculates to 70%. Nobody would say that 3.5 stars is good to very good.

But that's just my kool aid drinking opinion.
  10. the epitome of bickering on this website literally is telling someone their rating system is garbage...which is based on rating systems people use all the freaking time and it's an opinion

    KEEP FIGHTIN, ALEX.
  11. Interesting to open the Coldplay thread and see a great discussion on.. A rating system!

Thanks for the review Alex, in the end I might even want to listen to some of these tunes. It would be a shame to stop listening to Coldplay at all. Although I'm definitely Oldplay.
