    Most of the band are hiphop / rap fanatics. So that might be one reason. And Kendrick is at the top of his genre/game the last years. Why wouldn't you wan't to collaborate with one of the mos creative and successful artists around right now. !

  5. I don't like country music, but if U2 had not experienced with country and blues music we would never have The Joshua Tree. Many people didn't like house and dance music in the 90's, but if U2 had not played with it we would not have Pop.
    I don't like rap music, but it's great that U2 are having fun with different genres and discovering new sounds, new styles.
    When U2 produced a very "U2 sounding album" like ATYCLB and HTDAAB, people complained even more.

  9. Jesus lol it's 2 mins of Edge, Larry, and Adam basically playing jazz while Bono sings a couple verses only twice. It's not like Bono was rapping while edge was scratching records. It's a young artists who is politically and spiritually driven that writes poetry from his point of view (hmmmm sounds familiar). Yes it's rap. No U2 aren't rappers. Yes Kendrick Lamar and U2 have respect for each other. Yes they were featured on an album with heavy political and spiritual bases. No they're not selling out. They love all music, especially music that says something. Take Public Enemy back in 1992. U2 had them open for them because they were politically charged. Stadiums were afraid to boom them because of "threats of riots, violence, etc" so U2 said, "hey we're playing stadiums and we like what you have to say. Play with us" it's just all about appreciating art in all it's forms and supporting those arts and not staying complacent.

  11. I'm not appreciating art in all it's forms. Why is it required that I like every artist U2 likes. Giving your opinion is what a forum is about.
  12. Not saying that you have to. But I was saying that the band appreciate art in different forms. That's why they have collaborations with Frank Sinatra, Green Day, Johnny Cash, Pearl Jam, BB King, Mary J Blige, Jay Z, Rihanna, Roy Orbison (idk if that counts), and now Kendrick Lamar. It's a great song if you like hip hop. I can understand not liking the song if you don't like hip hop. But I wouldn't slag U2 for working with an artist they respect and are similar to. I'd have a problem if Bono tried actually rapping on the track or something along those lines, but it was like what a comment said above, more like a jazzy lounge type feel. They were just featured for a couple mins playing real instruments and singing. No rapping, no auto tune. Just U2 being U2, but on a hip hop track. Like I said, to each their own in terms of what someone prefers musically. I just wouldn't let the collab with Kendrick Lamar scare you into thinking that they're selling out or SOE will suck. It's a small collab, nothing they haven't done before. Well, in terms of collaboration lol definitely not hip hop
