I've listened properly at home right now, in stereo, and I don't wanna get upset, but I kinda am at U2. As I enjoy Blackout, it's like U2 dropped Rick Rubin sessions, and ended up with the same producer as Taylor Swift. It's no exaggeration, just listen to her recent song and it's that same kind of horrible, no-bridge editing, melody changing nonsense.

These songs they're so overproduced they got no soul.

U2's career path could be easily compared to Robert DeNiro's career path. They've had a good song but it's like Spotify and Tidal execs rejected it and advised them to do last minute changes so people will like it with all these effects that are hip now. Come on, U2.
Well, maybe we're getting this because SOI didn't have all these effects so they went like: Screw it guys! We are never gonna win the pop genre if we don't start with all this sound effects competition.

Once again I apologize to u2_michaelc who today just much faster than me figured out what's shit.
I wasn't right man, you have the right to your opinion too, none of us are really right just different. The song isn't shit but I'm just disappointed with all the hype leading up to this album, that's what they brought out for us first as a single. I'm a big U2 Fan just like the rest of us, but lately I'm liking what Coldplay's putting out a hell of a lot more and that's a lot me to say considering that U2 are better. The single choices and confidence of late has not been great. They keep second guessing themselves with everything and I think it's showing in the new songs except for The Little Things. The blackout I am liking more and more but U2 are a lot better when they don't give a s*** about anyone's opinion, take a risk like the 90's, the best records have taken risk, U2 know how to do this. But even Invisible was better than this song. They should have learnt their lesson from Nat release that relevance is not what they should be doing, stick with what they know your fans and the U2 audience will love you. But yeah disappointed with this song and I don't think that I will be playing it much apon the album release.

Exactly. I love the song, the promise of the song, but the version we have is abysmal.
  3. I think the marketing is going to put this song everywhere to get it played
Football game previews this weekend will happen.
For god sake they had Taylor Swift song advertising college football on espn last weekend.
It's going to be bigger song then they have had in last 12 years
  4. Because it sounded mental. Too mental for some.

This is just a bit bland. It might do well but it won't be around in a few weeks.

That I think is what bothers me the most because I believe it's also marketing that is responsible for chopping up the song, adding all the sound effects to literally MAKE people like it. Meaning that marketing by putting it everywhere will have a lot of people automatically liking it. But in the same way most of the pop songs are designed nowadays to have people liking them.

To say it's shit it's exaggeration because I agree that the song is there somewhere but had been poorly over-executed (pun intended).

I guess it will do very well with the mainstream people.
  8. If this was any band aside from U2 who put this out it would be getting universally slated here
