I guess that is pretty unnecessary lol although I can't remember the things I said earlier so I'll not say too much. What I will say is I always try and be constructive when I've got something negative to say and never do it to offend or get a reaction, although inevitably sometimes people will respond which is all good because I like a debate. I do think with the majority today it's a case of feeling let down, not by the band themselves but by there own expectations and I think that's understandable because a lot of people love this band and music can play a huge part of people's life so when it's something that doesn't live up to expectation it can be hard to take. However, I get what your saying in general, and negativity for the sake of negativity certainly we could do without.

Don't you also think it is interesting that people on here say "U2 should make music for the fans...fuck being relevant" but then fans can't even agree on what they want?

I became a fan in the 2000s so everything before it was a building block to me. I loved discovering their back catalogue and despite identifying with the 90s output more I still think that each decade has something that links it together and makes it U2. These guys are more than just my favorite band...their discography means so much to me. Yeah I'm a fan boy. I can't say I hate anything they have done; of course I like some stuff more than others... but I still LIKE IT.

For example... Drowning Man? PASS. Would I go looking for it to listen to...probably not...but when I listen to War do I skip it? No. I also don't spend hours posting about how it sucks and how I never want to hear it and how I think the U2 that gave me Out Of Control should be ashamed to also have a song like Drowning Man...cause guess what? Those songs sound drastically different and they come from the same decade.

Bring on the new music...bring on the new album and bring on the new sounds. This song makes me happy...this band makes me happy.
  3. I'm kinda missing the "and the world smells of fresh paint" line, the one it got replaced with (I think) doesn't work that well. I think it's the "When the world is ours // The world is not your kind of thing" part.

Yeah, "when the world is ours, and every door smells of fresh paint"
  5. After a few more listens this morning, I think that the edge vocal part is out of place. It doesnt really work for me

Well I agree that they shouldn't make music for the fans because as you rightly say we've all got our own idea of what we'd like. Im basically happy for the band to write the music for whatever they want to achieve and just hope I can enjoy which for the most part I do. I think the only difference with me and you when it comes to our taste in u2 is I do dislike a few of there tracks, although funnily enough I don't skip them on an album either because I like to go through the whole experience, however I do also make up u2 playlists quite a bit so some songs get missed for a while. Anyway to wrap up I share your enthusiasm about the new album, u2 are a band that also make me happy and also bring out many other emotions through there songs which for the most part I love, very excited for December 1st (assuming thats when we're getting SOE).
  7. Damn this is one great tune. The boys are back!! The way is starts with Bono singing before the guitar kicks in. The catchy chorus that sticks in your head and everyone on here who said they don't like the song will be singing to at the concerts. Then the best part is the song slows down a bit with "Why am I walking away" into that groovy bass and drum beat into singing falsetto "I can see it all so clearly". It's brilliant. Of course that's my opinion. Anyway, I'm gonna enjoy listening to it for years to come. And i know it'll be even better live.

If nothing else, you're definitely correct about the haters still singing it live.
