What is funny is I consider SOI to be their absolute worst album without question, but they seem to be proud of it, but even they admit it was over produced. They seem to recall Pop and Rattle And Hum as these horrible awful things, despite that being the furthest from the truth.
  2. SOI their worst album?
  3. U2 wrote Miami.

Define a pop song? Surely there are more than a handful... She Loves You by The Beatles? Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison? Miss You by The Rolling Stones? Wonderwall by Oasis? Even Photograph by Def Leppard and You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC are defined as Pop songs...

(I think) I'm not a complicated man, for all I care there's just two genres out there, Rock and Pop (although technically everything is Pop), divided by a big blurry line of Pop Rock....

The more silly, catchy, repetitive, dancey and with less electric guitar and less noisy and distorted a song is, the more it tends to be on the Pop side for me, and the more uncomfortable I feel with it.

Kygo version is a bit too Pop for me and makes me a little bit uncomfortable, but the studio version not so much.
Still, if I'll listen to a handful of songs that makes me feel a bit uncomfortable because they sound too Pop for me, I want them to be created by artists I trust and love.

(I totally love 80's Def Leppard
On the other hand, even if I'm willing to swear that the Beatles are the most important band in the history of the universe, I can't really stand their loveyouyeahyeahyeahs and basically all of their early catalogue).

PS: SoI is in the top half of U2 albums
  5. Lmao.. it's worlds better than October and Pop for starters. I think it's one of their top 5-6 albums. There's no deadweight on it as far as I'm concerned which I can't say about no line, pop, October, UF or Boy.

    Boy? Pop? UF?
  7. Yeah, each of those records has a least a song that is a dip in quality to the rest, miami, playboy, the ocean, Elvis Presley and America..

they might dip below the 8/10 album average for each song occasionally, but to me, SOI only jumps above the 6/10 album average for each song occasionally
  9. I think SOI is a great album, but it lacks a Pride, or an SBS, an I Will Follow, etc etc. It doesn't have a big U2 anthem on it. Not that it needs to, but still. It's sort of like an album of really good deep cuts/album tracks, none of the songs is really good enough to be a single, or be played after the SOI/E tours.
