  1. Fair enough.

    Now for my next question to you fine folks:

    When SoI was released, it was immediately followed up by a short letter from Bono saying "hope you enjoy the album, and stay tuned for its follow-up, Songs of Experience."

    What do you think the odds are of on Friday (or maybe early next week) we get a similar letter, this time saying:

    "Enjoy the album, stay tuned for Songs of Ascent."

    Follow-up question: how hyped would you be?

    Bono was quoted not that long ago as saying Songs of Ascent was still a thing, possibly a third album making this campaign a trilogy, and that "there are some beautiful songs" for it. Or do we think that's completely dead at this point?

    I'm not expecting it. I guess there will be a a long pause after this LP and tour
  4. Yep, there'll be a very long break after 2018.
  5. I think so too. But there's a possibility of them putting out an album and NOT campaigning/touring it. They've never done anything like that (apart from maybe Passengers?), but it could be cool. Full of tracks that didn't fit on SoI or SoE but are still good enough and in great enough number to comprise a third album? Who knows.

    I don't see it happening, but I'd be pretty excited if it was mentioned again.

    Same. Maybe also because a lot of that stuff might not be very live-friendly (as most of NLOTH was), to just release it, maybe do a few acoustic sessions somewhere and that's it. I'd like that.

Soooooooo...I haven't listened to the album all the way through yet, but I'm just curious...McCormick's review mentions the lyrics "free yourself to be yourself" at the end of Lights of Home (which are also in Iris and figured prominently in the first incarnation of this tour)...American Soul has the chorus from Volcano...Best Thing is basically Song for Someone + EBTTRT...is this album just what naturally would have happened if they had never released Songs of Innocence and kept producing the album and fine-tuning it? Like...all (or at least mostly) derived from the same tracks?

    I have not listened to it yet, either (trying to hold off until Friday, though it's hard!). But I do remember reading an early review suggesting what you just said - that SOI sounds like a "demo" compared to SOE.

    Initially, reading about too many cross-connections between the two albums makes me nervous, but judging from most people's reactions here on the forum, the album is shaping up to be a fine surprise with how good it is!
