I think this setlist and this production is a symptom of U2 being out of steam. Not only is so much of the show covering the same ground as the Innocence show (and no this isn't only a hardcore U2 fan's observation, I know a few "casual" fans in real life who saw both shows and were disappointed by Experience), but now they're not even making an effort to try new songs for the European audience.

Maybe they want to let everyone experience the same show, I get that. But if the European shows were different, I would've been able to say "well maybe they just weren't prepared for the North American leg, hence all the same material from Innocence". But nah, same show. It's just a weird thing for U2 to do, who have always wanted to give their fans a fresh and new experience.

Sorry for being a downer. I'm just ready for U2 to go off and dream it all up again.

P.S - no Little Things is just weird as hell to me, it's clear that it's the peak of the album both musically and thematically, and the show is supposed to follow that same theme. Would fit perfect before or after Acrobat or somewhere in there. Or to finish off the main setlist before the encore. Or the first song of the encore.

Basically it should be played and it's weird and stupid that it's not.
I get this but... but Zoo TV and Pop also always basically had the same setlists, right? Yes, yes, they brought in new songs in 1993 (but they also did so in 2018 compared to 2015, right?). And they were young, reckless, and way cool, so who cared about the setlist then.

I'll see how I feel in Paris next week...

I think you missed the part when I said this tour retreads a LOT of the ground that the last tour did, and it's being marketed as something different.

ZooTV didn't stop halfway for a completely different tour. Not only that, the stage and venues completely changed for ZooTV for Outside Broadcast and the European shows, and it WAS a different show. Same setlist, sure, but the show was different.

This is being sold as a "part 2", and it's really just "part 1.5". If even that. The stage is the same, venues are the same, setlist is almost the same, etc.
  5. So I get that they want to tell a story and have a narrative but honestly It’s getting to the point of ridiculous. Innocence is way to prevalent in the show I can handle a couple songs from SOI but I draw the line at the repeated SBS and UTEOW segment. But back to the narrative, I feel like they are trying to force it way to hard and are completely turning off the casual fans that just don’t understand the show. I know most of you are probably thinking “who cares what the casuals think” but sadly the casual fans are usually the majority in the live audience. I know the casuals ruined my EI Experience by sitting down the whole time. So you need to try and keep the casuals entertained playing TJT, Bad, NYD, and The normal version of SBS could help. Also juat as a little side note PUT LITTLE THINGS IN THE SETLIST ITS THEIR BEST SONG IN 20 YEARS!

In fairness the Setlist is just as different as Popmart was to zoo tv or as elevation was to Popmart. They never do much different from tour to tour except play a lot from the new album and maybe 1 or 2 rarities which are acrobat, the Ocean and SATS so far this tour. I’ve not seen the show in person so I wouldn’t argue the rest of the points but Setlist wise I don’t think they’ve changed it any less than they normally would from tour to tour.
  7. Any word on what song the flag is being dropped on? GOOYOW? Pride? Although it would make sense to do it on SOL, I can't see it being done on an acoustic song. Won 't have the same effect.

But I mean....you can't really ignore how vastly different the shows were between ZooTV and Popmart. Not to mention they changed the way they played certain songs on Popmart. I Will Follow sounded different, the Lemon remix, Streets sounded different, Still Haven't Found sounded different, etc.

I'll be curious to see what you think after you see SoE. You should PM me with your thoughts!

That’s true, I know what you’re saying with the rest of your points. Excluding song choice the E&I tour is more similar to I&E than any other tours have been to one another. I guess that doesn’t bother me too much because I do look at it as a new leg of the whole innocence and experience package but I can understand that people are expecting maybe more to be new about the show. I’ll be happy to PM you and post my opinion once I’ve seen it, won’t be until late October though but I’m optimistic. I see last nights Setlist changes as favourable but I don’t think its the perfect Setlist either. I’ll be fair and give my pros and cons once I’ve seen it.
  10. Wow, NYD over American Soul. I know most wont agree but that stinks. I know a lot hate AS (it is ok on the album). It was awesome live. NYD, have heard and seen a lot, including last year. I would not need it again as it is one of my least favorite of the warhorses. So that is a downgrade to me.

EBTTRT is cool, but I had no problem with Desire either. So that is a wash to me.

Summer Of Love is cool, new material is always better IMO. But Staring At The Sun was one of the best they have done (Performance and visuals). So I think that is almost a wash also. Now if they add The Showman, that is definately better.

Red Flag Day needs to be a staple, so that is cool. (again new material should win, always)

I agree this version of SBS needs to go. It would work still if they played the normal full band version like they did for TJT 2017.

Otherwise I think the setlist looks fine. This show is cool and I enjoyed seeing it in May. I think "most" of you in Europe will feel the same way after you actually experience it. Enjoy it, they are going on a long break after this year.

Think you'll find its during New Years Day.
  12. Is it me or not but Desire rarely gets played on European tours but when they do dust it off it’s mainly US shows, shame I think it’s a great song live and have heard EBTTRT countless times
