Experience and Innocence tour
Legs (3): Promo tour, Leg 1: North America, Leg 2: Europe
Shows: 75
  1. I am always massively biased over U2 and have always stuck up for them but I totally agree- if it wasnt for acrobat im just not that excited as i usually am. Im all for a narrative on an album but i think they have gone overboard on the narrative for the live show. The live show has to be about getting the crowd on their feet and blowing the roof off- nothing else.

If they just rotates the innocence section with something like Crystal ballrom instead of Iris, and Troubles instead of SBS....and for experience rotate the fly with Real thing....it would really freshen it up.

Its only a few shows in and they have done it only once but theres no excuse for identical setlists on consecutive nights in the same city- they know that their hardcore fans will go to multiple nights.

They know indeed, although I estimate that 5% at most of their crowd has been - or will go - to the other night as well.

In principle I agree with you: have at least one rotational for the hardcore fan, but preferably two. This will arguably contribute to a more happy & excited vibe on the various fan-boards around the world. And so contribute to a better received tour!

However: at this point, after Cologne 1&2, I'm willing to give them credit for the fact that they are rebooting the tour. We never know what Cologne 1 would have looked like when Berlin 2 went ahead as planned.

I too can not imagine they will play exactly this set night after night for the remainder of this tour. The fact that they are rehearsing TUF does give hope - and it will be fun to see where it fits in.

I don't think TUF is a candidate for taking the place of EBTTRT, although this seems to be the designated slot for rotation - if only because Desire already proved to be fitting for this slot as well. And it might even return...

But the truth is that this show is tight. Very tight. And compared to both the 2015 i+e and the JT2017 Tour, this show is also about 10 to 15 minutes shorter (perhaps even more when you start counting after the first notes of Blackout). I'm not sure whether this has to do with stamina, or with the concept - or even with the trend that nowadays also movies have become shorter compared to say, five years ago.
This is not an excuse, it's just how this tour is designed and I don't think there will be any songs added.

So there isn't much room for rotational songs to start with. Apart from the EBTTRT/Desire slot, I can only think of Red Flag Day (but PLEASE keep this song in the set!) as a serious contender for change (again: like they did in the States). Another rotational possibility is Summer Of Love. Here too the US song (SATS) might return.

Back to TUF, breaking up The Ocean/Iris/Cedarwood Road/SBS/UTEOTW seems unlikely. And neither do I think that TUF will be placed in the encore. For instance before, or after One (as I have explained above regarding the tightness of the show). Also the brand new New Year's Day with the EU flag seems just as solid as American Soul was in the US. Replacing - or rotating! - COBL with TUF might work, but I don't see it happening either. And yet this seems to me the only feasible option for The Unforgettable Fire.
  3. Could they not squeeze All I Want Is You into the encore? Just after One?
  4. Of course they could, if they wanted to. I don't think they do though.
  5. Right. The encore would indeed be the place for AIWIY, but I think they figure it would emotionally repeat/replace 13 (There Is A Light)...

TUF would be a good encore opener. It won’t replace EBTTRT because of Bono’s speech and they’d need to have a keyboard on the e-stage for TUF.

They could easilly rotate IWF with OOC, Electric Co, Gloria (even 11 O Clock would fit there), Summer of Love with SATS, SBS with Please (even stripped down), Iris with Lemon, Mofo... and so on... and that feckin narrative would still be there...
  8. How does this sound?

    1. The Blackout
    2. Lights of Home
    3. I Will Follow
    4. Red Flag Day
    5. Bring back a rotational slot - Gloria/Two Hearts/Out of Control/Electric Co/All Because of You/rarer stuff like Miracle Drug or Original of the Species
    6. Beautiful Day
    7. The Ocean
    8. Iris
    9. Cedarwood Road
    10. Sunday Bloody Sunday
    12. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses (opening is long enough for Larry to get back to his drums)
    13. Until The End of The World

    INTERMISSION

    14. Zooropa
    15. Elevation
    16. Vertigo
    17. Even Better Than The Real Thing
    18. Acrobat
    19. Best Thing
    20. Bring back a second rotational slot - Summer of Love/Stay/Staring At The Sun/Every Breaking Wave
    21. Pride
    22. Get Out Of Your Own Way
    23. New Year's Day
    24. City of Blinding Lights

    ENCORE
    25. One
    26. All I Want Is You
    27. Love Is Bigger
    28. 13

    Probably too long though

    They could, but they won't

Regarding "I Will Follow" Bono has said that it's the "best version ever..." So not likely to rotate. If anything on that spot, they start rotating RFD.
SBS is a huge crowd pleaser and firmly placed in the "innocence" narrative. You may Pop-dream all you want, but no way "Please" will replace SBS - and neither will those obscure Pop-songs ever return to the set, and you know it

Sure. But the encore won't be extended. They already dropped that extra song right after Tulsa.

As a hardcore fan, I do regret that enormously: that would be the perfect place to please (no pun!) fans like us. Rotate WGRYWH with stuff like TUF, AIWIY and so on. But somehow they rejected that idea...

I just dunno. I’m worried that I’m not on the forum every night bitching and ranting. I used to do that because I cared. This year though...
You aren't alone. There's not many of us left from the original 360 tour days
