Someone mentioned this before but then you’d have to ask the question 6 months after the last tour ended and with things being at such an advanced stage of planning based on the rumours why would the band decide to pull the plug now? If these rumours had come about and then in January or February we were told the plans are cancelled that would make sense, a couple of months thinking time but not at this stage.
  2. For all those curious about the 2002 rumored tour, here’s a list that was compiled back then of all the rumors. Seems like they definitely were in the advanced stages of planning when the plus was pulled, for reasons unknown. It’s possible that they were at the same level with this tour before the plug was pulled.

A few weeks ago this seemed like an announcement was imminent. Now, it seems like a lot of the sources have gone quiet. We’ll see!

  3. The above dates are completely different, how long after the elevation tour did it become clear these dates weren’t happening? Not too long I’d imagine, but a few weeks or a couple of months thinking time for the band to pull the plug would make sense on the back of a big tour, we’re now 6 months after E&I the thinking time was over 3 or 4 months ago, why would they change there mind now? If it turns out the tour isn’t happening then I don’t buy it that they recently changed there plans, it doesn’t make sense. I would have to question the reliability of the sources (not the fansites themselves but there sources) if it doesn’t take place after the extent of rumours up until this point and how long they’ve went on for but hopefully it does happen and the sources have been passing accurate information.

It was about April/May 2002 they pulled the plug. Bono wanted to do it and it was the rest of the band (or other member, it was never said specifically) that nixed it. I remember he commented on it at the time. Something along the lines as "It's not always up to me on these things."

I just read on a u2 site called elevation tour an article from early March 2002 where they said no tour. That’s about 3 and a half months after elevation ended with an announcement of no tour, I just don’t buy it that they’d change there mind at this point. If they’ve changed there mind it was a few months ago or the tour will go ahead that’s my thinking anyway.

"A few weeks ago this seemed like an announcement was imminent. Now, it seems like a lot of the sources have gone quiet. We’ll see!"

Over at U2Songs we've been getting a steady stream of information, a lot of it from people tied to the venues or local now. It hasn't gone quiet at all. But most of it just backs up what we've already shared, so haven't bothered to post it, since that just opens a bunch of comments about how it is not happening. We have (and have shared!) most of the dates, we have many of the venues, we have cities and routing except for one. Not a lot of blanks to fill in. We'll update something when we have something new to share.
  8. Still think we will get something by mid point of this month. Keeping fingers crossed, especially as have bit of annual leave planned around time of the rumoured Asia leg...

On the same site it does have a bit in May about bono saying some of the band were tired so that’s probably where you got the date from, good memory. They actually announced it on u2.com though in the March that they wouldn’t be playing shows that year.
