Originally posted by deanallison:The above dates are completely different, how long after the elevation tour did it become clear these dates weren’t happening? Not too long I’d imagine, but a few weeks or a couple of months thinking time for the band to pull the plug would make sense on the back of a big tour, we’re now 6 months after E&I the thinking time was over 3 or 4 months ago, why would they change there mind now? If it turns out the tour isn’t happening then I don’t buy it that they recently changed there plans, it doesn’t make sense. I would have to question the reliability of the sources (not the fansites themselves but there sources) if it doesn’t take place after the extent of rumours up until this point and how long they’ve went on for but hopefully it does happen and the sources have been passing accurate information.

It was about April/May 2002 they pulled the plug. Bono wanted to do it and it was the rest of the band (or other member, it was never said specifically) that nixed it. I remember he commented on it at the time. Something along the lines as "It's not always up to me on these things."

Seems like they definitely were in the advanced stages of planning when the plus was pulled, for reasons unknown. It’s possible that they were at the same level with this tour before the plug was pulled.

The first mention of no tour was 11th March.

I was close I guess (going off memory from 17 years ago). But I also remember Bono saying it was not because of him. That article says it is. I think it may have been footage of him talking to fans or something like that.
