As SJKamal says we aren’t to get tested if we show symptoms just self isolate. It’s only if the symptoms are severe you are to phone the NHS and I assume they tell you to come into hospital if it’s bad enough.
  2. When you're healed it is indeed assumed (not proven yet) that you become immune. I meant that the disease sometimes comes in a first and second wave in the heavy cases. So you feel slightly ill for a couple of days, then ok'ish again for a few and then it returns. It's something I read from a dutch Corona patient, I'm not sure how typical it is obviously..
  3. Do you personally think it’s worth the whole world shutting down?

I am married and we have five children. We’ve be instructed to work remote since last Tuesday. My job is in sales and I only go into the office twice a week anyway so no biggie for my specific case. But in Tampa, FL, people who work a regular hourly paid job are being asked to stay home, restaurants are take out or drive through only (no sitting inside to eat), CVS (a big pharmacy) is telling it’s workers that for right now there is unlimited overtime available but after things are out of stock at the warehouse and they have no supplies, just stay at home with no pay!

The media is literally covering Covid-19 and that’s it. Stock market is down some 35% as of close of business March 18. It’s just crazy. My family and I feel well. My wife has friends on Facebook who are nurses and have told her that no one has ever came to their hospital and has tested positive for Coronavirus. It just seems very very hyped. Very end of the world themed.

I do understand the reasoning why we are all “social distancing” is so that the virus can kill elderly and I’m now hearing young children so I get that but still feel like this is extremely blown up.

Don’t beat me up for feeling that way too much as I’m sure a lot of other people feel that exact same way. And again I understand why we are doing it just feel it’s a bit we extreme.

Probably a lot of the family of people who are no longer with us thought it was extreme too before there elderly or already sick loved ones passed away.
  6. My mom lives in a nursing home so I understand. She’s 75.

  8. It’s a pity retailers selling non essential goods are making it impossible for workers to stay inside because they’re staying open.

Read the Italian newspapers. In Northern Italy, hospitals are at 200% capacity; 1/5 of the population in certain regions is positive; of those infected, 10% need to be in intensive care, another 10% need oxygen. The virus has the potential to infect at least 50% of the population. The death rate is above 5%. Do the maths, keeping in mind that countries like Italy and France have about 5000 beds in intensive care units. And that many of those are already taken. The whole world isn't shutting down destroying the economy for no reason. If millions or tens of millions are infected, the death rate will go up between 10 and 15% of the population. It will be mass graves, if they can be organised. It's not scare mongering. Just look at the Italian data. And, btw, numbers keep going up exponentially in Italy. So the death toll will go up, too, because hospitals are already full. And wait until it spreads to the South, where the healthcare system is a lot worse than it is in the North. Let's talk again in two months to see if it's hyped. Btw: *I really hope I'm wrong*. I'm locked at home in Austria with two small kids; it's no party. Good luck 'working from home' with a 5 and a 3 yo. For months on end. So, again, I *really hope I'm wrong*.

I have friends in intensive care. My age (42). Death rate in Italy for people my age is about 0.5%. Then it goes up exponentially as you get older. *If we can cure everyone*. If we can't it will probably go up to 1 or 2%.

Extreme is having hundreds of people dying daily from a virus. In my city there's probably a hospital without any cases, but there are others that do. This virus is killing the old and those with compromised immune systems, and guess what? It's sending young people to ICUs and they're needing ventilatory support. It's being "blown up" because it's serious and lethal. Hopefully the USA doesn't have a crisis like Italy, but the initial US response was a joke.

What's worse- forcing people to stay away from each other, or doing nothing, having thousands more die and overloading hospitals that have inadequate equipment/staff/resources?
