  6. went to the second melbourne show... that was the best night of my life as well!!!! well worth the wait...
  7. Especially to Beckhamcrosses,

Looking back I must say that the first three shows were the best I have ever been to.

At my first U2 show in my hometown Leiden in The Netherlands in the so called Stadsgehoorzaal on October 28th 1981 it was possible, although I bought my own ticket in advance, to buy your tickets at the entrance of the venue for dutch guilders 12.50. Nowadays that same ticketprice would have been 5.75 euro (amazing). The show itself was full of energy and the crowd of maybe 800 people (it turned out to be a sell-out) went wild.

My second U2 show was also in my hometown Leiden in The Netherlands but at a much bigger venue (Groenoordhal 10000 people). U2 were opening for Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club. Although the main event was the Talking Heads I still think that the majority of this sell-out crowd came to see U2 that day (maybe I'm not objective on this one). During the day I was lucky enough to meet the band after their soundcheck that afternoon in the carpark. They were just wandering about there and spoke to some friends who had come over in an old bus from Ireland and some fans.

My third show at the pre-War tour on December 8, 1982 in Utrecht in The Netherlands at a place called Muziekcentrum Vredenburg (sell-out: approximately 2000 people) became special to me because Bono went climbing into the audience when the band played The Electric Co. and he leaned on me while he was singing and standing on a balcony.

After these three first gigs U2 went into the big arena's and stadiums. Their shows are still the best in the world (no one even comes close) but I miss the intimacy of the shows in the early years.

  12. You're professional fans!

    I've just been to 3 U2 concerts:

    Rome July the 6th, 1993
    Rome September the 18th, 1997
    Rome July the 23rd, 2005

The first was AMAZING, of course not the best Zoo TV concert ever, but still a fantstic gig for a 15 yo boy. I was in the first raw in front of the acoustic set, Bono has been there for almost half of the concert. Same thing for the 2005 show, that also was absolutely fantastic.
