I found my way here because of all the bad press.

I did PM you long time ago. (About the logo) Maybe you were busy at the time so I did a retry

  2. u2start.com should rethink if they really want to bite the hands that feed. As you can see some tapers tend to shy away.

I don't understand what is so hard to understand about simple wishes to not make lossy versions of lossless files unless they are for personal use?

Don't tell me some ppl don't know how to convert .flac to Mp3 themselves. A simple google search will help them...U2start's service in other things is really great. I'm sure they can make a manual how to convert .flacs.
Also u2start.com sometimes already has lossless files for download, too. Why can't they simply upload the lossless version only then?
  3. so now there's the new issue with the achtung_baby01's Sevilla recording.
now another taper that won't share his recordings anymore, congrats.

sometimes i wonder if you think at least just one second before posting an mp3 of a recording where the info file (which you left as is) clearly states 'NO MP3'.

i won't even mention the latest IEM fiasco ...
  4. Explain to me, I'm quite a noob when it comes to this.

Why do tapers not want their recordings converted to mp3? Why?

It comes from the problems we had in the past with cdr's made from mp3's being traded as lossless, and people having to check and make sure they got what they traded for and not a lossy burn. So the solution was to not trade/spread mp3's. If everybody told the truth about lineage etc it wouldn't matter, but just like with anything else there's always a few who are out to spoil it for the majority. It still happens; we've had a few shows banned this tour because somebody grabbed mp3's (ironically off of U2Start), FLAC'd them, and tried to seed them here.

  6. Because lossless = exactly what they recorded and is the best quality.

MP3 = The root of all evils. MP3's have been linked with paedophilia and as such the tapers don't want their stuff circulated in mp3.

To some it's a non issue but to tapers it's a big deal.

Haha, isn't really a big deal at all tbh.

Yeh, lossless is better quality than lossy obviously but it takes up LOADS more space than lossy does. Besides, some people like their music in lossy, so why take a hissy fit about it? Also take into consideration that people don't like torrenting, so they won't want to get the show. Plus, people don't like the amount of space that lossless takes up. Converting into MP3 is no biggy. Seriously guys.
  10. So, let me get this straight. Because someone converted the recording to MP3 and shared it here, we're not going to get to hear his/her recordings of Coimbra (or possibly anymore that he/she does)?

The arguments for mp3 as the arguments against. If a guy makes the effort to tape a show he reserves the right to say what should happen to his recording (at least that's his thinking). There is demand for mp3 and one way or another somebody is going to provide for that demand. If not the taper himself, then via places like here or via 'personal use'.

you got it right, no more achtung_baby01 recordings shared in public from now on, only in closed friends circles, iem's or audiences. no coimbra coming from him, and i'm pretty sure bedoc won't share his coimbra recordings either, you won it all in the end thanks to the idiotic management deciding to not respect the wishes of people providing the goods.
