1. Right, Jeff, a couple of questions that I can remember;

1.) This guitar is the same as my one, it's a Ridgewood electric. Thing is, I always considered it to be a Fender Strat. copy, but the headstock is different, so much so that it looks (to me) more like a Fernandes or something, so I was just wondering whether you were could clarify what it technically IS a copy of...(if anything at all!)?

2.) This has only just occurred to me, but I thought I'd ask anyway because I've forgotten the other questions I had in mind lol - do you know if Edge played Electric Co. on Explorers up until the Vertigo tour? I was wondering because he had a white LP around TUF era, so I just had a thought whether it was a purely Vertigo thing to play Electric Co. on that, or whether he'd played it previously on any tours before hand on the LP...

    ANSWER # 1:
    I'd say it's a Strat copy.

Many of the Fernandes designs were initially copies or near copies of other designs. Fernandes has moved away from more blatant copies, like the Decade Elite to more original body designs like Ravelle, RetroRocket and others. It wasn't lost on Fernandes that the Decade body style, Which Edge used during Popmart, was similar to a Fender Jazzmaster/Jaguar)

    ANSWER # 2:
The answer is that it has varied over time. Many of the songs from Boy and October have had the black Strat at times and the Explorer other times. Here's a few examples of what and when and where some of the various guitars were used for "The Electric Co.":

Lyceum Ball Room 1980 was the Explorer:

    BOY TOUR
    1981-11-04 BERLIN - Explorer

San Francisco May 1981 was the Explorer:

    OCTOBER TOUR
    Werchter 1982 was the Explorer:

    Roskilde 1982 was the Explorer:

    WAR TOUR
For the 1983 US Festival, it was the original black Stratocaster:

Same for Red Rocks was the original black Stratocaster:

THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE TOUR - After playing the black Strat for The Electric for years, he returned to the Explorer during some of The Unforgettable Fire shows.
    Sydney 1984:

    Example: Dortmund

    THE JOSHUA TREE TOUR
Paris 1987 saw The Edge using the Explorer

    VERTIGO TOUR:
Edge used the auctioned 1975 Gibson Les Paul Custom:
    San Diego

    NY 2005:

Aha! I've remembered one of the questions lol, although it's more Bono-related than Edge...

What guitar is that which Bono be playing? Well, I say playing, I don't know if he's actually playing it, he could just be posing, but assuming he IS playing it, are you aware what songs he could have been playing guitar for during the War/TUF eras?

Judging from the picture in the link. the BAD mullet and the military jacket... that picture is from The Unforgettable Fire tour.

The guitar in question is a Fender Lead II. While looking similar to a Strat there are some sure differences. First and foremost are the 2 instead of three pick-ups.

The Fender Lead II were manufacturered between 1979-1982 and had (2) specially designed X-1 single coil pickups, one at the neck, and the other at the bridge. The X-1 pickup was also used in the bridge position on the "Strat" (that being the "The Strat" shredder style super Strat and not merely a nickname for Stratocaster.

If you look at your VHS of Red Rocks, this is the guitar that Bono used for "A Day Without Me". As for the picture in question, chances are that he is playing either "A Day Without Me" or "I Fall Down", which Bono also played guitar on whilst The Edge played piano - Both tunes were played in earlier parts of The Unforgettable Fire tour.

And YES, Bono IS playing it! (hahahahaha) Although he's basically striking chords in both "A Day Without Me" and "I Fall Down".

"I Fall Down" from the same Sydney 1984 show:

    Hope this answers your question.

Aha, yes it does indeed answer the question! I can't refer to UABRS because I haven't got it...

...but I shall take your word for it! I'll hopefully get a copy when the re-releases happen in July (if they do indeed stick UABRS on DVD...)

The only other thing that's on my mind at the moment is Electric Co. - I'm just trying to get the effects right, wondering what input you might have (assuming it's a song you play now and then). I checked on various YouTube covers, and some had links pointing to different sound forums etc. but none work anymore!

"Help me [Jeff] Kenobi, you're my only hope!"

I've got a clever Zoom G1X box which simulates effects etc., so there's no "get hold of a delay stomp box, gain etc.", if you got any ideas as to how much delay, what type of gain etc., please let me know!

    No pressure

EDIT - I'm more thinking Vertigo than pre-Vertigo (if you wanna call it that), because they sound vaguely different...

EDIT 2 - I think I've semi-cracked it, although I'm still interested to hear your suggestions and ideas sir! I was watching Chicago last night trying to get the delay right (Vertigo versions seem to be approx. 30ms rather than the 28ms on previous versions)...and I think I've also made a personal breakthrough in discovering the added benefits of changin the EQ lol...
  10. What other bands do you know this kind of shit for Jeff? You seemed to know Jimmy Page's guitars pretty well.

This is NOT "shit" it is about art; it's about music! (Harumpphhh!)

    (just messing with ya)

Guitars, drums and other musical gear-wise... I'd say I have a bit more knowledge about U2 and Led Zeppelin than other bands... but I know a lil something something about REM and RUSH too.

But I'm still learning new things everyday. That is why I like the question that everyone has been asking. Those I don't know the answers for are a springboard for new learning. It's a bit of a hobby.

Some collect stamps... I collect pictures and information on U2 instruments? Something like that.
  12. Alex Lifeson's current touring guitars,

    Gibson black Les Paul Custom
Black prototype Gibson Les Paul with Floyd Rose tremolo
Maple sunburst prototype Gibson Les Paul with Floyd Rose tremolo
Gibson 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue
Sunburst '58 reissue Gibson Les Paul Tobacco sunburst
    '59 reissue Gibson Les Paul
Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion w/fishman piezo system
    Gibson ES-355
    2 Garrison GGC-50-CE 6-string acoustic guitars
    3 Garrison G25-12-E 12-string acoustic guitars
    Garrison OM-20 octave mandolin

I'm sure i fucked up copying this, but its a decent list. He dumped the P.R.S. guitars for this tour.
