  1. I need to get a band again lol, you guys are inspiring me. I've been working on a solo EP for quite some time, maybe once songs are done I'll post them here, but for now I miss playing with other people. Luckily my friends and I are jamming tomorrow night!

There hasn't been a post in here in quite some time... since my last post, I've completed quite a few things and started work on an EP for a side project that I'm doing with my friend Rob (bass / piano of Impetus). The EP is titled "Obscurities." I got the idea when I said this to my friend Curtis: "Obscurities are the truth in it's purest form." I really liked that and went with it...

    But the Impetus songs are the ones that I've completed the most work on. I'll only show you guys the last two, as it would just be a whole mess in here if I posted everything.

    Dream of Brilliance (working title, I'll most likely change it)

    This is a very light, slow tune. It emanates a dreamy, "floaty" feeling. The next song is also light, but in a different way. It has a slow jazz feeling, but it still carries out a passionate "rockier" feeling towards the end, before the closing choruses.

    I toyed with the idea of swapping the 2nd and 3rd verses but having finished what is for now the 3rd verse, that's what I have. Thoughts?

    Right. I posted this sodding ages ago, finally got 'round to recording a version. I'll warn you all, my mp3 player doesn't like recording my piano, so don't listen to it at too high a volume lol. If it was a bootleg I'd say 2-2.5 star quality when I start hitting the keys, which is really pissing me off 'cause I've gone through it so many bloody times and placed the player in different places around my front hall to try and minimise the fuzz, but to no avail. However, it's a demo so it's kind of expected, and I just wanted to share it with you guys to give you an idea of what I had come up with.

    Couple of things, there's one or two minor lyric changes, and I mean minor, like the odd line, and I'm thinking of naming the song either 'Sunset' or 'Sunset Run', wondered if you guys had any thoughts on which might be better suited.

    And yeah, I've worked it into a ZooTV-esque segue with a cover of Running To Stand Still.

    It would appear you have beaten me to the punch in re-opening this thread Mr Quiggs lol. Liking the lyrics m'man particularly the first song, it gives me a very Velvet Dress-ish vibe.

  5. Thanks Harry! You're cover of RTSS was wonderful, you showcased your rich baritone. Sunset Run segued perfectly, and really flipped the emotion on it's head. When you started singing, I was reminded of a fresh pot of coffee, if that makes sense. The lyrics and music are good, so don't worry about the recording quality. Do you have a regular digital camera? I use mine for recording keyboard bits, and it records the sound almost perfectly. It's an HP from 2007, and it would work perfectly for recording a little demo like Sunset Run.


    Thanks Sergio, and I agree, I actually like Fragile Perfection more as well. I do have music for it, I'll record something very soon. It's the same chords / organ riff throughout the entire song, so I'll most likely record just a 30 second clip with a verse or something. Thanks for the interest.

    The chords are Ebm, Db, Abm, B (Em, D, Am, C played on a guitar tuned to Eb is how I play it... even though there won't be guitar chords in the song... lol) I also have little licks, since it is a jazzy tune.

    I love the second one, too, and actually read that one first as I saw Sergio's comment that he loved it way more...and I was like "Oh, I'll HAVE to side with him on this one- that was so good"...and then I scrolled up and was like...those are lyrics I would quote and put up on a bulletin board in my room, for real. That's awesome stuff.

    Incognito Burrito, my summer band that plays graduation parties throughout the season, has another show on Saturday! We're super excited, here is the set!

    The Middle- Jimmy Eat World

    Chapter 4- Avenged Sevenfold (I'm not really pleased about this, but it was specially requested by the kid hosting the party)

    Blitzkreig Bop- The Ramones

    Our next two shows will have "Where the Streets Have No Name" and "Beautiful Day" in them, but those aren't quite ready for Saturday. Our drummer is shocked at how difficult/original the drumming is for Streets...almost entirely on the toms!

    Wow (about the bulletin board comment), thanks! That's really cool, I just imagined you listening to your iPod (with an Impetus cover art showing), getting up a writing it down. I just got a "butterflies in my stomach" feeling lol...

    Anyway, here is a video with the "Fragile Perfection" music that I said that I would record. Notice the birds chirping and the pajamas that I'm wearing at 4:00 pm.

    As I've said before, it's a really cool setlist. It will get people going, and that's exactly what they want in the Summer. I wish you guys the very best of luck with both rehearsing and performing!! Actually, I've always though that Blitzkrieg Bop would be a good closer... idk, just a thought of mine.

    Ha, well, someone has to represent the other side (i.e. preferring Fragile Perfection), glad you seem to like it though! can't say I quite get the fresh pot of coffee comparison but I'll take it lol I don't have a camera unfortunately - I might look into getting an 8-track, my housemate at uni. has one and gets decent quality recoridngs on that

    Thankyou m'man believe me, I want to get a band together so I can try and realise the possibilities but it's difficult trying to find like-minded people where you know it just works. But I shall prevail! Either that or just work out a one-man-band solo-rig lol...

    Ha, love the style matey lol like the basic structure, it's got promise I feel your pain where intriguing acoustics are concerned...I've had my fair share of weird things happen lol.

    What I meant was, I pictured a sunrise, a fresh start or something along those lines when the singing began. That feeling you get when you wake up feeling well. That sounds good, whatever works.

    Thanks! Yes lol, I always have either a bird's chirp or a dog's bark. How the camera picks up my birds' chirping is astounding; either the camera is extremely sensitive to high pitched chirps, or my hallway has incredible acoustics. The birds are located in my kitchen area, which is separated from my room by an eight foot long hallway. lol
