1. Bad seguing into Moment of Surrender would be brilliant. Wish Bad was a regular. CoBL and I Still Haven't Found still too late in the set. Maybe come the European leg they might push the boat out. Be good if they had a different closer every night, Bad, 40, One, Moment Of Surrender, etc.

That minority happens to be a considerable percentage of the people on the forums and I guess that's why sometimes mistakenly feels itself a bit entitled to get the shows tailored to whatever they're convinced would be better, even if nobody outside this circle cares about it, and when the shows aren't tailored as that minority wants -which shouldn't be a surprise at all- then absurdly accuse the band of playing safe or chickening out or being stupid.

Setlists and/or songs selection are totally subjective. The idea that A Sort Or Homecoming would be better than Elevation in a setlist would be heavily supported almost by the entirety of the small minority that it's the internet U2 community (including me), but it would be considered the most stupid thing the band has done in the last decade by the huge majority of non obsessive fans. Both opinions are equally valid, and believing that one opinion is more valid than the other is arrogant and wrong. But believing that the minority opinion is more valid and keep on demanding that the band acts accordingly is not only arrogant and wrong, but delusional as well.

Wishing that the band plays x or y song, hoping that they would change something, disliking some song that they're playing... That's perfectly normal and everybody does it. But being upset because they don't meet your demands? Lol... Who's forcing you to continue listening to it and devoting your free time to it almost on a daily basis?

  3. I'm staying out of this! Haha. I brought it up after LA5 and got jumped on by a few members. Some respectively and others disrespectfully. I don't follow the sets anymore because it's pointless and extremely predictable. But I'm very much looking forward to seeing the boys next month and I know the shows are going to be killer regardless of the set.

But having a discussion about the setlist (purely about the setlist, not about their screens of other stuff, Ahn1991) isn't bad. I just find it quite interesting that a bunch of people here and other U2forums think this setlist kinda sucks. Are we gonna do anything about it? No, because the setlist works for the band probably. Can't we talk about it and share our point of view how it could become better? Yes, could be fun.

And no one here is demanding that they play a show with Heartland, Hawkmoon, Acrobat, NLOTH, Moment of Surrender, Twilight, Gloria, RHMT, LIB, SLABT, Kite, TUF and Lady With The Spinning Head. I posted a setlist some pages back, with ideas which I think could be realistic and which could really work during a show. It's not like people walked out of the venue during the last tours when they started playing Miss Sarajevo, UV or Gloria or something similair.
You should change your avatar. Seriously... why are you so afraid of changing it? it's not like people would stop taking you seriously if you add some color to it. What's wrong with a picture of Bono? I've seen other users ("members", Glenn dixit) with a Bono avatar and nobody is complaining about it, so why are you so lazy that you can't even do that? it's amazing how many good avatars you're just ignoring because you care that much about what the rest of the forum might think and in the end you just chicken out because you don't have the balls to change it.

The evidence that you're scared to change it is right there in your avatar, since you still have the same.

What's wrong with this picture? It's sooo easy to change it and have it as avatar, if you wanted to you would've change it already, but obviously you're too lazy to do it.

Your avatar is not working out, but here we are in "where the avatars have no change" LOL...

I'm not even asking for a weird psychodelic avatar, just a little bit more of color, that's all...

Why don't you do what I would like you to do? obviously because you're lazy and scared of what people will think of you, there's no other logical explanation.

    ---

I don't mind people expressing what they would like to see in a show, or reading how different people would create different setlists, realistic ones or otherwise. That's fun.

What I do have a problem is people assuming that their opinion is absolutely right, therefore turning their opinions into demands, and in the end assuming that the band has the moral obligation (or something) of meeting those demands, and if the band fails to do that, then claiming that it means that the band is lazy or scared or lacking of balls to do it.

The band decides to play something and people (attending the shows) is loving it.
Demanding that they should play something different on the basis that people would still love that, makes absolutely no sense... why should they cater to that? just because you and I want to? That's one hell of entitlement.

He keeps going on and on and on about how New Year's Day is the perfect song and how just by including it on any setlist it would turn any combination of songs in the best setlist ever.

He's convinced about it but -in the internet community- nobody else really cares about NYD that much.
He's like the internet community claiming for more setlist variation while the rest of the non obsessive fanbase don't really care about it that much.

With the obvious difference that michaelc never actually complains or moans about it, he just enjoys sharing his love for NYD while patiently awaits for the day when the band decides to play that great song again.
That's a much better way to do it, imho.
  6. Guys and gals, in the end there's really one thing that matters. One thing that trumps this whole discussion, and I'll continue to spread this around even though I wasn't the one who first said it. You're all arguing and and fighting there's really only one important point that we need to remember.

  8. What's wrong with that picture, you ask? That's Colbourne's avatar. Bart is already practising what he preaches, he's changing things up. He's got the balls to stand out and be unique. The variation in avatars is what makes the forums more interesting and better to look at. If we all stuck to the same default avatar, what a boring experience that would be day after day.

    Good on you, Bart

Exactly! just because other artists and bands have a different approach to their shows doesn't mean that U2 have to do the same formula about setlist rotation and such, nice idea to include that point!

Also, following your point, obviously since U2 is not playing the same songs that any other band is playing we get that "variation in avatars" as we do in here, but... what about just the U2 shows Bart avatar? he's been wearing the same avatar Every.Single.Day.Since.Months.Now... it's sooo boring! it's not even on rotation! at least change it every week! we're tired of you wearing the same avatar! boo! you're so lazy and scared of what we might think if you add some variety to your avatar! boo again! I want to see a different avatar from you every week otherwise it means that you're lazy and weak and boring! boo!

    ---

although, honestly, I agree with Tim... setlist variation is not really important, just like it's not important if you keep your avatar every day, what matters is that you have a really nice and original avatar, even if you decide to wear it every day... if we want variation, we can always look at some other artists shows member's avatars.
  11. would actually started this little argument if u call it that
