    I find that argument of age and current trends to be so ridiculous. You like what you like. Artists like U2 and Madonna are largely in uncharted territory being at the top of their games for so long and wanting to do new things. If it feels organic then go for it. If it felt forced I wouldn’t be excited but this sounds like U2 through and through. All the songs we have heard so far have.

    I find the comparisons to Coldplay rather forced, too. Just cuz it's "poppy" doesn't mean it's Coldplay - people just seem to like to throw that one out cuz it elicits such strong feelings. Sounds far more like Walk the Moon or maybe even OneRepublic than it does Coldplay.

    Video seems to have some Coldplay vibes, but honestly when was the last time we got a good music video? Window in the Skies? Not too heartbroken over that.

  3. This is not like 1991, 1997 or even 2000. Every U2 album so far is different from the rest and yet they all have a unique U2 signature that you can hear and feel what they've been going through the years. From their soul-searching quest of the 80's to the maturity and reflections of married, middle-aged men facing a new music order in the 2000's, there is a coherence in the songs that just feels right.
    I like being challenged, I enjoy and welcome a piece of art that feels like uncharted territory for me. I didn't understand a page from my favorite authors at the beginning, but that's what compelled me to keep reading and eventually they opened new paths, new ideas and new ways to see the world. Every U2 album is like that. I hated Zooropa at first. It sounded so strange, so different, it was too much for a little kid like me.
    Every U2 album up to SOI has a very unique "magic" that may not be present in all songs, but it appears where you least expect it.
    We've heard 3.5 songs of SOE and so far I only felt the magic in 1 song. It's not that I don't understand the songs, it's that I know them too well by now. It's almost as if they're plagiarizing themselves from 17 years ago. How many times can you recycle Always? This is not new. They recycled the Crazy Tonight riff in Song For Someone, but it was not a big deal to me, because the album rocks and it was still something different, unique.
    I don't know, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt because I still need to hear 7 or so more songs, but I'm not terribly excited about it.

    None of those things are a deal breaker to me.


    If there's a new U2 song, I will listen to it, and I will enjoy it.
    Immediately or eventually.

    Precisely. Also I have to say The Little Things is mynleast favourite out of this bunch. I don’t generally have time for slow and sad songs. Definitely not at the gym or commuting to work or wherever else I want to go.

    Not that I don’t like it. It is a really good song and I will listen to it a lot when the album comes. If isnis a single I’ll listen to it more because it will be in my “New Shit” playlist but otherwise generally slower songs don’t get my attention.

    My life sucks enough as it is. Bring me anthems!
  7. I love this new Taylor Swift song. The fact that Bono is a guest vocalist on it is even better. Its like Romeo and Juliet 2


  8. Amen to this. Let's judge more fairly when we've heard a good quality preview, at least, if not the whole song.

    Even if it doesn't measure up at that point and comes off like an "Always"/Beautiful Day ripoff, I'm still happy with the other three songs we've heard from SOE so far. Still find myself singing Best Thing all the time, will love seeing the Blackout open the shows next year on a rocking note, and think Little Things is a totally classic, epic U2 song.

    This. It really feels like they are just playing U2 2000 all over again. That doesn't mean there won't be any good songs on the album, but over all it might be very boring and middle of the road.
  11. Jesus, FM has a different and much better song, you can't compare it with the U2 song. It sounds like Beatiful Day but more worse.
