Out of these 20K, how many people do you think would have been following the rehearsals online through the previous weeks? Knowing that casual fans are a big (BIG) % of the ticket buyers, and knowing that a lot of hard die fans are trying to stay spoiler free... I'd say only around 5% max of these 20K attendees would know –let alone feel disappointed– if Acrobat and Wild Horses eventually didn't show up that night. And I don't think U2 play for us, "online attendees"... I think they play for the people at the venue each night and they don't give a damn about how surprised or disappointed we feel at home.

Good point/post - but why not make everyone happy and play those AB songs? I'd like to think that anyone attending a U2 concert would appreciate pretty much any of the 12 songs from that album - so PLAY THEM (please).
  2. Plus, part of the whole difference in Vertigo > 360 is that the songs they kept were different in a way. COBL and Vertigo went from opening a lot of shows in '05 to being huge set pieces in the middle of the show in '09, with the screen being an essential part of those songs (that strobe during Vertigo!!!)

I don't really care to sit through a run of 5 songs that I also sat through 5 times in 2015. Shake it up.

I know the numbers aren't extremely higher - but c'mon. There seems like no imagination in the set they just rehearsed.
They did play walk On,angel Of Harlem, MLk and in a little while on the vertigo tour though. If we get wild horses and acrobat on opening night then that will be 5 that weren’t in the tour before which is the highest for a number of years. I get your general point though.
  4. Right, but they were not regulars whatsoever. I wouldn't consider Two Hearts Beat as One or Gloria a "repeat" of what they did on the I&E Tour.

    Amen.
  6. It's also nice to take a look at what we were betting 2 months ago in the E&I tour - General topic (No Spoilers please!):

And, surprisingly, TheShowman presumably took the prize home :

I think there is a high possibility U2 will play a lot of I+E staples this tour. And they will even keep the same visuals. We can only dream about rarities. But to be honest, rarities are not likely or they will be dropped soon.

Carrying songs on from the previous album to the next tour, especially a handful of non singles, could be considered as risky a Setlist you could ask for from u2. In fact to many that would be just about the dream scenario, dropping some of the overplayed hits and keeping room for both SOE and SOI.

I get what your saying, if we’re looking at only regulars yeah they really need acrobat and wild horses in the Setlist to balance things out a bit otherwise we’re looking at potentially a lot of the same stuff each night.
  8. My point is, SOLELY pulling from the three "greatest hits" compilations we have (80-90, 90-00, 18 Singles), here are some tracks they have to mess with:

    Electrical Storm
    Stay
Stuck in a Moment (full band)
    Gone
    Discotheque
    Numb
    The First Time
    All I Want is You
    Walk On
Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own
    Window in the Skies

So why are U2 only playing the same 4-5 "greatest hits" every. single. tour. How much better does this setlist look, swapping ONLY greatest hits for greatest hits:

Unknown Pre-Recorded song (Possibly vocals by Bono)
Love is All We Have Left (Pre-Recorded)
    The Blackout
    Lights of Home
    Beautiful Day
    I Will Follow
    The Ocean
    Iris
    Cedarwood Road
    Song for Someone
    All I Want is You
    Raised by Wolves
Until the End of the World
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
    Stay
    Staring at the Sun
    Gone
Get Out of Your Own Way
    American Soul
    City of Blinding Lights
    The First Time
Love is Bigger Than Anything in its Way
    13 (There is a Light)

  9. Likewise. The rehearsals started really positively from day one to around day three. Since the first so called “full run” it’s been steadily worse.

I didn’t see the I+E tour in 2015 so it’s a bit of a double edged sword for me as 75% of these songs I’ve never heard live, at the same time I’m very familiar with the I+E tour and I’ve listened to loads of bootlegs.

I’m a bit gutted with the setlist. I honestly wouldn’t settle with only Horses or Acrobat as the rarities we’d get either. I think after last year’s tour They should be bringing out more of their back catalogue, I love this bad but some of the decision making Is horrendous
  10. Yeah I’ll be the first to hold my hands up and say that was a great shout from showman which I really didn’t see coming, as I said back then as well though I think playing a few from SOI combined with a few from SOE is actually pretty risky compared to say opening night on both JT and I&E tours.

Indeed, the risk is undeniable, and I think it's much riskier to to 15-18 SOI&SOE songs than just 7 SOE numbers and filling everything else up with classics and 1-2 rarities. That's basically the definition of the IE setlist btw: 8 SOI songs + 13 classics + 2 rarities/less-played songs per night.
  12. There was just such a huge opportunity for them to explore their "songs of experience" throughout their career and instead they've thrown the idea in the toilet. It's so disappointing that there's virtually zero representation from Bomb/ATYCLB, their two centerpiece "we made it to the other side of all that experimentation" albums. We could have had that version of Miracle Drug, or SYCMIOYO, Kite, Original of the Species, even Walk On would've been welcome.

Instead we get Beautiful Day, Elevation, and City of Blinding Lights. Excuse me as I try to reign in my excitement.

The Achtung songs that are now dropped fit that bill perfectly, too. But even when The Ocean started getting rehearsed, my dominant thought was 'that doesn't really make sense...'
