That is a bit harsh. I think they could easily pull of a straight forward show with all-time classics, but that is just not their approach. Up until I+E everyone said they were getting better and better live, and all of a sudden they are not? Doesn't make sense to me. Regardless of setlist I think they'll still play stellar gigs because they have a huge back catalogue. Personally I'm a bit gutted by this current setlist, but let's see what will happen in the following weeks.
yeah, what have to remember, and should all know - is they always try to one up themselves on tour extravagance. there's always some record breaking or innovative technology that's kind of been part of U2 since Zoo TV. It's just who they are. Even with the "basic" TJT30 they used the largest screen ever, right? Maybe it detracts from the straight musicianship, but hey... it's not like we don't know what we're getting.
  2. I’m honestly surprised by so many things.

First, I’m surprised by the number of people who are now hoping they don’t have a Night 1/Night 2 in mind.

I’m also surprised by the number of SOI songs. I honestly thought there would be none. You can argue about it being the Experience and Innocence Tour but I really thought that was in name only.

I’m surprised by the fact there is no Red Flag Day or Summer of Love or Streets for that matter.

As for shouting about AB/Zoorooa/Pop brings “experience” given the context of SOE the songs on ATTCLB are more in line and I’m really surprised we aren’t getting songs like Kite.

  3. I think so based on some comments, it would be pretty cool though if the band stopped rehearsing acrobat and wild horses (most likely they’d still be rehearsing it privately at least) right up until opening night then surprised us all with it. Would that not be a good way of making 2 songs that seemed likely a few days ago into a surprise.
  4. Just thinking out loud:

Being optimistic in terms of ticket sales... Let's say that 20,000 people will be in Tulsa's arena on May 2nd.

Out of these 20K, how many people do you think would have been following the rehearsals online through the previous weeks? Knowing that casual fans are a big (BIG) % of the ticket buyers, and knowing that a lot of hard die fans are trying to stay spoiler free... I'd say only around 5% max of these 20K attendees would know –let alone feel disappointed– if Acrobat and Wild Horses eventually didn't show up that night. And I don't think U2 play for us, "online attendees"... I think they play for the people at the venue each night and they don't give a damn about how surprised or disappointed we feel at home.

Reading the posts i would say that people have expectations of the set list that are quite high. The tour did not even start. So why complain? I am not worried about anything, just wanna see the band play. And if there's something cool in the mix, hell yeah !!
The hollywood remix of Desire live? Cool, i love that vibe !!
Can understand some fans only want special stuff played. Not gonna happen every night. But some nights, whoo.......are magic and we know that.
  6. I don’t know anymore about how many casual and die hard fans are attending. As someone pointed out recently the tickets are that expensive now that how many casual fans are going to pay that sort of money. I know I wouldn’t pay the price of a decent seat at one of these shows for any other band in the world and Ga is likely to be mostly die hards with the pre sale. I do agree though that the vast majority wouldn’t be aware of these rehearsals. It would still make it a surprise for everyone though and not just the majority.
  7. Lights of Home and Iris
    Song For Someone and 13...

At least it's not American Soul and Volcano.
  8. mirror ball?
    only play the Discotheque.
  9. I am so surprised that people are surprised that there are songs from SOI. U people do know the name of the tour, right??? I am glad they are playing those songs and songs from SOE.....i am tired of new years day and so.....people just enjoy....we might not have much longer with this great band!! And i know its all about conversation but some people just make me shake my head....
