Don't think so. The encoding-quality differences are not noticeable thru hearphones. You need a Hi-Fi to notice the difference. I think your iPod is flawed, specially if the same bootlegs were OK in the previous iPod.

PS. How is the video quality? Are they listenable?

The video is fantastic. Thats one good thing. Standard audio is crutal.

PS : All the classics sre the same as this

So, the only flaw thing is the audio. Well, IMO you can ask Apple to change the device. In an iPod with 6 months, a bad audio is understandable. In an iPod with 5 days, it's not understandable at alll.

Indeed that's very weird. My first-gen Nano that I got when they came out still has great sound. Almost as good as my U2 ipod.
  5. Yeh, I'm surprised about the sound flaw. Are you sure it isn't just your set is faulty? You seem to know that others have the issue - do you have mates with them?
    I'd be calling Apple.

I have a mate with the new Nano and he says the sound is as good as ever (as long as the phones are changed obviously..)

make that 1 day. The sound was crap straight out of the box

It's definatley not my settings. I'm not a huge audiophile. I just know if something sounds wrong or not. I wonder if this loss in quality has anything to do with the £60 price drop over the equivalent previous model? I think I might send it back and try another unit just to see. If its still crap then i'll just have to wait for a firmware upgrade. The increased hiss is pretty disgusting aswell

If you reckon the sound is a bit off, I'd be taking it back. While you still have that warranty. I have, from your experience, decided to hold off on the Classic. As the Touch is a bit overpriced for 16GB or 8GB, I don't think I'll be rushing out for it. I'm gonna go for the older-style 80GB, seems to have less problems, plus I'll pay for as much AppleCare as possible. I want to know it can be fixed if it does bugger up in three years.

What's the hissing problem, by the way? You need to prove to Apple if it is a widespread problem, to have more than 120 people with the same issues and can prove that it is widespread. Absolutely ridiculous for the price.

Definatley hold of Drew for the classic or get the previous 5.5G video (apparently the best gen so far).

It's that annoying his the we experience in a lot of bootlegs except i'm getting it on studio material which shouldn't be happening. Listening to MLK or the start of Bad or any other low-volume song is just spoiled by the hiss. I'm going to wait until the end of this week to see if theres any new firmware and if not i'll be filling out my exchange form and be sending it off for another one.
  10. Hey!!
well, you guys seem to have a great deal of knowledge in the subject, compared to me.... LOL!!
the thing is that I'm really starting to love the idea of buying the U2 30G special edition Ipod. brand new.
I wanted to ask what do you think?? is it a good idea/investment??

I've read you have mentioned the U2 ipod as a very good one, is it really worth the purchase?? 'couse for me it'll be a huge amount of money...
    so I'm open to suggestions...
    thanks!

If you are looking for an ipod right away then i'd definatley recomend the U2 version. It is technically the 'old' model now that the 'Classic' has been released but the older one out performs the classic in every single area. So unless you fancy waiting for an upgraded and improved Classic do not hesitate in getting the U2 one.

I've been wanting to get an Ipod for a while... nowadays I'm using a simple mp3 player of 2G. you can imagine my struggle and stress everytime I want to add something new I have to remove something I love!!
so I got really tired and also, had some extra money that maybe can help me to go through with the payments...
I'll let you know if I end up buying!!
    thanks
